The rover will be a mobile spawn point

many people will Control+K just so they can spawn to it

The makers of the game ackknowledged that they know people will do this

personally, it is a great tactic, but seems goofy that the game is designed so you can do it.

so i had a thought

what if you can use your map or something to warp to the spawn
and maybe it could take a few seconds to locate it and spawn you their, similar to the time you spend suiciding.

maybe you could also have it only work if your radar station is up and working?!

poisonspider - It's just a game. The game mechanic itself seems fine; your main beef is with the logical consistency of it.

But you're capturing flags and respawning.

So there isn't any logical consistency. Don't worry about it. :]

As for spawning at the rover, you do choose it from a map - or you tap a number key to spawn there. It has the same spawn time gap as any other spawn...

ctrl+k is a designed part of the game.

See KP's post about it.

It seems like a really efficient tactic to me. Someone deploys it as a spawn point, tells his team where it is, and everyone floods through, sort of like a troop transport hitting the beaches. Of course, the only problem is that those vanishing people may have been playing defense or may have been supporting other players that will then be overpowered as a result.

It'll probably come down to how each player feels the current situation should be balanced, which is sort of dangerous, but it does go along with the teamwork perspective on things.

Plague: I'd like to clarify that it doesn't deploy. You can spawn on it no matter what is happening to it on the field. From driving to falling through the air, it is open to spawning.

That's kind of strange.

It makes good sense though, from a pro-vehicle perspective.

The biggest problem with a Rover is that it is armor-weak. If you want it on offense, it can't stop - that'll be death by mortar and rocket pod. Hence they fact that you can spawn on the move.

The rover spawn sounds great. Makes the game seem more offensive and less defensive.

Oh and the rover should have a jet pack.

I'm guessing you can see where the rover is on a global map or CC? It would make no sense to just spawn wherever it is, not knowing if it was lying in lava or what have you.

In my mind, the whole idea of spawning on the move is funny because you're basically crapping out teammates as you drive along, and you don't even know it. You turn a 180, and you run over them as they spawn. You drive over a hill and over a flag, a teammate spawns there and drops on the flag. "What the? Flag? Oh boy!"

How in the world will the game decide where to spawn the player anyway? If you spawn it in front of a moving vehicle, that's obviously going to result in road kill. Above, you might drop on a stopped vehicle, which doesn't look very good although it doesn't have any other problems really. The only option is to make them spawn in a "crapping" fashion, behind a moving vehicle, and even then you have to make them spawn at a greater height to avoid clipping when the Rover is moving downhill.

To me, making stopping or moving at a comparitively creeping pace makes a lot more sense so that it 1) looks a lot nicer and 2) has more tactical advantages, but whatever they want.

I think the idea is players spawn in the inventory screen, can choose their inventory, and then do exactly what you said: just pop out of the vehicle. I'd place my bet on upwards with a nice little impulse.

My main issue with the whole idea is immersion. Not that it doesn't make a tremendous amount of sense, but the idea would work better with an APC or something much larger, something meant to convey the idea of a transport. Leaping out would make a lot more sense, and look a lot better.

But if they can make it look good with what they have, more power to them.

The vehicle is much larger than a heavy armor. I think that the top of the vehicle could open up and spit out a heavy armor.

guys...i wasnt asking if you thought the rover is a cool idea.
I was asking if you think its a good idea that people will be killing them selves to spawn to their rovers.
I mean do you think it would make more sence that you could go into your map and choose to spawn to the rover, instead of killing your self to spawn to your rover. Yes suiciding is a good tactic, but its turning into a game feature.

and if you think the map idea is a good one, perhaps it could only allow you to spawn to the rover when your teams radar is up. and could take a certain time before you teleport to it (about the same time as it takes suiciding)

According to Thrax the Rover is relatively lightly armored, and fast. The vehicle COULD be used as a forward spawn point for offense, but when the enemy catches it spitting out Heavies, they will dispatch of it quickly. I think having a mobile spawn point is a great idea.
