Plague 02-15-2004, 08:31 AM I was wondering, since Vengeance is going to be more plot-oriented than the previous titles, will it be packaged along with any canon storyline materials? This would include official fiction and timeline information (through T2 I would assume, unless that's straying too far from the theme). When I say "packaged with" I don't mean three or four .DOC files or something with the CDs/DVD, but a large compilation that goes into more detail than the game itself does.
Feigning foreknowledge, I'll wager a compendium would be very nice, but the production price would increase too much for what it's worth?
I imagine most Tribes players wouldn't care, or that's the impression I've gotten, but there's also another, slightly smaller base that enjoys the timeline Sierra created for itself for its games in the mid/late 90s.

enDless_Delirium 02-15-2004, 12:29 PM There was something like that in the Tribes 1 manual, and it was a cool read. I forget about Tribes 2, but Blake did write that story taking place right before Tribes 2 (though he never finished it! grrr!).
I'd be interested in it, though I think the majority of their audience probably wouldn't (though I think behind the scenes, Tribes is and has always been the most story driven FPS..though probably because of it's roots in almost every other genre) and the production values would be higher.
.DOC files on a CD though could be a good compromise.
UberGuy (FT) 02-15-2004, 02:15 PM I agree that the storyline documents that came with Tribes, and their relation to the Earth/Starsiege story backdrop, were quite cool.
ConfigSys.boy 02-15-2004, 02:29 PM Well nothing compares to the Starsiege Compendium obviously, but the likelikhood of us seeing Sierra invest in something like that in the immediate future is slim to none I would wager. I'd settle for a well fleshed out .pdf at this point, but I'm skeptical of even that sort of effort being invested in outside-the-engine universe materials.

Plague 02-15-2004, 07:59 PM I wasn't about to suggest something on the level of the Starsiege Compendium because, well... it was freaking huge. I'm really glad I have it, and that they decided to take the time to make it back then, but I'm doubting to ever see anything on that level of information again.
A .PDF I wouldn't mind, as long as the information and art resources are there.

enDless_Delirium 02-15-2004, 09:37 PM Y'know, I think after thinking on it for a while, that I'd settle for a big pin-up posted of that Diamond Sword guy standing on the floating base with the huge sword and gun :)
Zaptistas_Blood 02-15-2004, 09:40 PM :signed: Iv'e never seen the SS Compendium or played any of the starseige/earthseige games but Iv'e heard that that compendium thing was pretty cool.
Plague 02-15-2004, 09:54 PM Yeah, it has short stories, character profiles, detailed information on terraforming and Cybrid heirarchy/naming/communication/philosophy, as well as the dozens of pages of information on the entire history of the universe from the 1990s until the 2700s.
ConfigSys.boy 02-16-2004, 08:41 PM The Compendium was without a doubt one of the most substantial box includes in a PC game ever. It was the weight of an old Flight Simulator game manual, composed entirely of high gloss paper. ~160 pages full of backstory info on the universe and the period immediately preceeding the Starsiege campaign storyline not to mention the fact that every page was literally dripping with concept art. I've honestly never seen anything to compare it to. There are some includes from other games that have been similar in nature, but never anything quite like that that I ever owned.
