T:V system specs hint?

I know the game is well away from being released, but I was wondering if a dev member would be gracious enough to throw us a bone? I don't want to know the minimum spec garbage that is usually on boxes because I doubt any serious gamer is going to be playing T:V with a 1ghz PIII and a GF2 video card.

I have a decent enough machine now (P4 2.6, 1gb RAM, ATI 9700pro), and I was hoping to get a hint as to whether I'll have to upgrade come release time if I want to play T:V with 60+ fps (with all the pretty stuff turned on of course).

Pretty Please? With sugar on top?

I'm pretty sure it'll run it.

Of course, I'm as close to the Dev team as your maiden aunt Sally...

On second thought, she MIGHT be closer.

Oh I have no doubt it'll run... the question is whether it will run well enough to not need an upgrade and still look like the screen shot teasers that have been released.

In my experience... Nothing ever looks completely like the screenie teasers.

It's probably too early (as I was told when I made a thread in GD about it) to be considering upgrading... new stuff in 6 mos...

I have a 2.0GHz Celeron 384MB of RAM and a 64MB GF4 PCI. I'm gonna suffer until I build a new comp.

P.S. Why do you want 60+ FPS? Your eyes can only see like 55 so you coouldn't tell the diff from 55 from 155.

The real trick it to make sure the frame rate doesn't drop below 30. But frame rate can take some pretty wild swings depending on what is going on in the map. If you minimum frame rate is around 30 then you max will probably be like 60 or 70,

why does everybody say this?

Because it's true. But the best guess we have right now as far as how well your computer will run it is the UT2k4 demo, which is the same core engine but the modifications that were made could change everything so it's hard to tell. With the system you have I think you don't really have anything to worry about though.

because it's true. Having the game run at more than 60 FPS is useful, for when a lot of stuff on the screen is causing slow-down, but otherwise it's just for bragging rights.

I don't care if the game is running at 800000000 FPS for me. I'd like it to always be between 30 and 60, and if it was over 60 more the better.

Just FYI:

30 FPS is considered the lowest frame rate that you can compete without taking a hit to your skill level (because even though the eye CAN see faster, the body generally doesn't react all that much faster than the equivalent of 30 FPS either)

60 FPS is great, it's about what your eye can see, SOME people have really sensitive eyes I've heard that can tell the difference between 60 and 90 FPS, but it's also fairly rare.

Anything above 60 is just extra really.

"This is where this article gets even longer, but read on, please. I will explain to you how the Human Eye can perceive much past the mis conception of 30 FPS and well past 60 FPS, even surpassing 200 FPS."

Anything over 60 FPS is extremely smooth, I don't really think it can get much smoother, even at 200 FPS.

I dont think it can either

I just say, if i plays good, then i dont care. I never bring up my FPS. then it starts to piss me off. Well, it did before my 9800 :P

I don't think you have time to see 200 FPS when you flying around getting shot at.

60+fps -> epenis++

But we all know FPS isn't consistent.

FPS can vary depending on the amount of objects/polys the card/cpu has to process. 60 wouldn't be good. In heavy situations, it could very well drop to 30 or lower.

Higher the FPS the better, cant' argue with that. :)

I suppose, but you really don't need 200 when a steady 80 or so will do to make sure nothing drastic hurts your computer.

but then again

if your monitor's refresh rate is 60/85/100hz

why does it matter if you go over that

heh heh

oooooh a chance to talk about nerd stuff! although yer eyes can really only see at a very low framerate, the big difference is that yer eyes process all information in between each frame, by accumulating all the 'in between' light onto the next frame. this is why you see motion blur n such. video footage works in a similar way, which is why it still looks nice and smooth at only ~30fps.

computers on the other hand dont have any inbetween information. from one frame to the next there is no extra information being sent out.. its just a constant image of the current frame. so theoretically speaking, a higher framerate = smoother image (all the way up to infinite fps), because once you go above the refresh rate of your eyes, all those extra frames are accumulated as inbetween light.

sniggle.

although your refresh rate is a limiting factor
