I don't get why you guys can't use RIAA music. If the music is payed for and you're not making any profit off it where's the legal problem?

Public re-broadcasting of music purchased for a single listener/consumer is not legal without a license that specifically allows you to broadcast it -- and those licenses generally come from the record companies that hold the rights to the albums.

a few years ago when the RIAA was bitching and moaning about internet radio, did anything come of that? You see plenty of shoutcast stations out there, and you know that 99.9% of them dont have any license.

also.. what is the delay with the new TV stuff in winamp.. between transmission and reception? I remember on the older stuff.. the buffer was huge so it was near impossible to say something on the air.. and expect anyone talking to you in irc to hear it in under 10 seconds.

Better safe than sorry. We were the #1 cast last night on Winamp, and I'm sure it will happen again. If RIAA decides to come after someone for casting music, videos, etc. -- we'd be a pretty visible target, as far as Winamp .nsv casts are concerned.

We're not looking to set any records as the first company to get 'made an example of' for unlicensed broadcasting of RIAA music. We just want to provide great entertainment, hassle-free.

Besides, there's plenty of great non-RIAA music out there. Personally, when I started doing the research, I found out that most the music I listen to is non-RIAA anyway ... so there's plenty of material for us to choose from.

I think that what we discovered last night is that the delay is around anywhere from 5-30 seconds. I'm just giving my best guess from what I witnessed ... maybe some of last night's other casters can throw their opinions in.

Honestly, I was quite surprised that the delay was as short as it was. The .nsv format makes a big difference.

Anything from Epitaph or Fat Wreck Chords. Which quite a few punk bands are. Bounty listens to punk. While obviously we'll never be able to find music for everyone, it is up to the casters to choose what they want to play. If they like techno, you'll hear techno. If they like punk, you'll hear punk. It is the same way any radio station works.

Video: Great, loved it
Sound: Good but mics had some issues, that wasn't your fault though I don't believe
Buffering: None, I only buffered when I started it and it ran 3 horus straight beginning to end without any disconnections or buffering, only when you disconnected the whole thing was I cut. Awesome connection guys.
Personalities: Good, I'm not one to judge people right away thoguh but it seems you have a good mix of people that bounce off of eachother fairly well. Akward moments are expected though :)

Also, love the attention given to the IRC people even thoguh I never got any of my shoutouts out, lol. I expect it thoguh with so many flooding in. Seriously good job last night though, if this is any sign then I'm very pleased.

A+

To answer a few questions that have been asked,

The possibility of commercials submitted by the community is a very good one, the guidelines are basically....

A) They have some entertainment value. This is something the staff will make judgement calls on.

B) They are promoting an event or product, such as a LAN party or a new skin site. Really anything that would benefit the Tribes community.

C) The language is not over the top X rated or abusive. While we are not going to say foul language is forbidden we are going to keep at least a level of professionalism. WOFN is very accessable and requires no age verification so we have to maintain a rating of around PG13.

WOFN supports and welcomes community created material and it is in our policy to use as much of what is created as possible. If you put your time into creating something good we should give you props for it and get it out there for the community to see.

As for the cost last night, Other than the bandwidth and servers which were provided by Homelan, The staff payed for their own equiptment, plane tickets, hotel rooms and beer. Calculating the cost of the event would be difficult.

Alchemist got on a while after the cast ended and had a short feedback session but yeah it was late for the most part and call-ins woulda been good.

Sound?
sucked, but it wasn't your fault

the talk got a little boring, and the music, but overall better than heard before
Buffering issues?
minor, half a second of rebuffering maybe 4 times.
Disconnections?
none
etc.
all around, excellent.

Video ok?
I was really impressed by this, especially considering the viewer load. Much better than the old stuff. It'll be great to watch matches through this.

Sound?
Quality was great, clean and clear for the most part.

Personalities?
Seems like a great group of talent, some of the best from casting days gone by. I don't think there will be any problems with casting quality whatsoever. I'm really looking forward to start listening to weekly shows again.

Buffering issues?
Once or twice throughout the entire broadcast. Nothing serious at all.

Disconnections?
Only after a few minutes of watching the press conference setup :p

All in all a great resurrection of a community staple that's been sorely missed. Can't wait to see what you guys do next.

Had some minor buffering issues.

Single "disconnect" at transition from cast to conference.

Other than that, it was good.

Hopefully you can use the same type setup to do something similar to T2TV and broadcast actual video (IF people can get it through thier heads that strats and routes aren't top secret material) from matches, or at least pickups.

As for the "commercials" part of it, I still suggest having a casting call for shots and turning loose one or two of the movie makers in the community and streaming some of those as video.
Couple of those would have worked great as filler material...
