i just muted the audio and waited for the press conference to start before i turned it back up, ESPECIALLY after that horrid music started playing.

just b/c you don't want to play RIAA music doesn't mean it all has to SUCK.
I'm sure they wouldn't mind you uploading some of your non-riaa, non sucky music.

really need some better hosts, ones that have chemistry so there aernt a bunch of awkward pauses and retarded comments, they sounded like a bunch of people who had no idea what was going on or how to talk to another human being
those people normally won't work together. last night was mainly an introduction cast (introducing the shows we'll be having and who will be on them) and then the Press Conference.

Ok. To talk about lighting and sound since I was there...

Lighting:
When mike and ed remained in the spotlights, they were fine. It was when they decided they wanted to wander that we lost their faces. The only way I could have fixed that was to either stand up and scream "Mike, get back in the light you moron!" or to turn on night vision which would have washed everything out. I did not mention to them to remain in the light because we had so many other things going on. This was my fault and will be corrected for future events.

Sound:
Yogi, myself and 3 sound engineers spent over 2 hours working on the sound quality getting it just right. We were all set to go and then the "big boys" (Gamespot, ign, etc) showed up and adjusted everything to fit their needs without talking to me. :-\

Again, this can be corrected if I had brought a mixer. My fault. I apologize. It will be corrected.

Thank you all for giving me the benefit of the doubt. This was my first ever live video broadcast and I am extremely new to all this shoutcasting stuff. I thank everyone that has worked on WOFN and all stations in the past making headway through this new technology. We will continue to stumble along the way, but always making adjustments and learning from the mistakes.

Thanks for tuning in and I hope to see you on for our shows and match casts.

Will WOFN allow Tribes to submitt "commercials" for recruitng?

If so,, what would be the guidlines for making a WOFN recruitment post/commercial?

When the video of them in-game started playing, I was buffering more than once or twice every 5 seconds. I stopped watching it after that crap :(

I joined up late, so I missed the warmup, just saw the actual stuff on T:V itself. The video was a bit murky on Ed and Mike but at that point, it was focused almost exclusively on in-game video, so it was no biggie. The in-game video looked good and I thought the sound was fine. Ed and Mike did a good job on their end.

I had no problems with disconnects or buffering. Overall, I was pretty impressed. The only issues with WOFN seem pretty minor and easily fixable. Good stuff. :)

Q: How much does WoFN cost to run? How much $bling$ $bling$ did it take to broadcast last nights performance?

I ask this because last nights video was pretty compelling and I would love to see more video feeds like the one shown last night. I just don't know if that would be financially feasible.

No disconnections, but i was buffering every 3 seconds during the gamplay videos. no exaggeration. :ugh:
I guess it's to be expected with the server getting hammered and all.
Can't really comment on the Wofn stuff as I just came in during the press conference.

Same here. I was buffering a lot during the gameplay (on a cable modem). I disconnected myself a few times in an attempt to catch up to where my teammates were since we were all on TS. They were making comments on things that I wouldn't see until maybe 30 seconds later. I'm not complaining though, I enjoyed viewing the event.

I also didn't join until right before the press conference so I can't comment on the personalities. While I didn't hear much of the music due to joining late, I doubt there is anything that will appeal to everyone. Maybe you could play some music from the TRIBES games; I know there isn't a ton of it available, so maybe just for a big event like this one :drummer:

No need to be an ass about it veteran. Just becuase my "Status" in my profile has an early date, or low post count, dont assume I'm new to the tribes community.

I thought it would be a unique recruitment tool for -tribes- if it was within taste and met WOFN guidelines. Could add a bit humor to the casts aswell.

You go play with you clan bud.

Video: Pretty good. Lighting issues, but not much you could do about it.

Sound: Yea, those guys don't do much in the way of public speaking. The mic is not a penis, you do not need it halfway down your throat to get a reaction. If they actually were using it properly, then you guys need to work on mixing :P

Music: Yea. Nobody in this community has any talent they want to submit for consumption?

Buffering/Disconnects: I had some series issues with the stream itself, but I'm positive it's my cable modem/Cockcast/Crappy Linksys router.

On-air personalities: Smaller chemistry issues, not anything bad. I'm used to people not knowing how to talk to other people (I, and the vast majority of my friends are all terrible, terrible nerds). However, the pauses KILLED any hope of a good conversation. What it sounded like was you had all the casters connected to the server, and listening to the stream at the same time. This didn't work last night :P I've never done any shoutcasting, but it would seem like the way to do it would be have the main caster hosting a Ventrilio/TS/RW server, and sending THAT stream out. Yes, that does add a single point of failure, but it should remove that convo lag.

Contest: Yea, I wanted to win a t-shirt last night. (I'm talking about the last concert they held, "What's Bounty Drinking Right Now?") By the time I actually heard the question, the room had been unmoderated, people had spammed so much, and the room had been remoderated. No, I wouldn't have gotten it right anyway, but the thing that ticked me off was I never had a chance.

Summary: Good first 'cast, needs some polish, few issues to work out, but very excited about the future :bigthumb:

Actually, that's exactly how it's done ... on Ventrilo. The main reason for pauses between casters talking is that BodyShot, DwarfVader and I had never casted together before ... this was more or less a one-time thing.

Things will smooth out over time -- but really, you'll most likely notice the biggest improvement when you hear our casters doing their shows with their regular partners. There's a sort of natural rythym that develops, and the flow sounds much better.

Also, our styles of casting are a bit different. If you tune into A/S/L (just for argument's sake, of course ;) ) you'll notice that El Mariachi, Pixie and I have personalities that complement each other a little better, with regards to how it affects the outcome of the cast.

I, for one, appreciate all of the comments so far in this thread -- both positive and negative. There are many criticisms that, while reading them, I found myself nodding my head and saying "Yep, yep" to.

As far as the contest goes, well ... life's not fair. :)

Seriously, though ... next time we'll probably post the question in IRC and then immediately unmoderate the channel. The reason we did it over the air this time is because we thought the stream (using the .nsv format) did not have the same differences in delays that the audio streams did. While this is true (that the differences in the delays are not as bad) there are still delays. Lesson learned.

Look at it this way, at least you guys learned how to properly spell "Guinness". :D

Thanks again for all of the feedback, you guys rock.

(P.S. WOFN will be playing a lot more varied music than techno ... fear not!)

I thought it was truly excellent. I haven't been this excited about actually listening to shoutcasting in 3-4 years.

Great job! Everything was perfect on this end.

I don't get why you guys can't use RIAA music. If the music is payed for and you're not making any profit off it where's the legal problem?
