is there a recording of the cast I can D/L somewhere?
Conference Thoughts/Comments.houston 01-30-2004, 12:08 AM is there a recording of the cast I can D/L somewhere? KillerONE 01-30-2004, 12:13 AM I'm not exactly sure why you think skiing is immediately defined as only a balance issue. It's a primary part of the game that can relate to balance in regards to skiing between armors, but the aspect of skiing goes far beyond just simple game balance. Edit: Not to mention, didn't experimental say that the physics system (which would relate to skiing obviously), was almost complete? Wouldn't that lend itself to saying that skiing was in a fairly complete state? They did say, the system they have in place allows desigers programmers to modify all settings any time to test different aspects. Also, even if they can pick up speed fast, like you saw, who's to say that was the fastest? Allowing people to get to a decent speed, fast, is good. Now, who's to say that if you REALLY were skilled enough to hit just the right route, you couldn't go 2 or 3 times faster than that. There isn't a cap on speed, so I don't see why not. Rigel 01-30-2004, 12:14 AM The one major thing that irked me was the movement in midair without jet power. I understood the logicalness of the recently debated "sprint movement"(a quick jump to one side via a double tap on the movement key). However, I think I have an issue with being able to move without power in a direction that is not mandated by a mechanical power system. If you ask me it take out a level of standardness in the game. The standard being that players will behave in a set manner given certain conditions (eg: player will always move in accordance with jetting). If a player can jet and then move according to free will without expending Energy it challenges the dependability of movement. Maybe its just me but I think this feature destroys the ability to predict movement as easily. Think how difficult it will be to CG a player from the air if the can move "willy nilly" through the sky. Also, was I the only one who had feed problems? Im on broadband here and it still reacted poorly. Many instances where the feed just stopped to buffer occoured. Either way, I love the way the game is going, and I think the boys at Irrational will do an excellent job! Next time, just ask them to turn off the cheats to play the single player missions, because something tells me they would have gotten their asses handed to them! Flatscan 01-30-2004, 12:15 AM Wulfey remember when you played IR for the first time? I thought MY GOD THIS MAP IS TOO BIG. I even thought Raindance was too big and that the rocket turret was too powerful. Such a long, long time ago =). Skiing fixes lots of things =). If they release lots of skiing vids early on with intense action, people should catch on quickly. KillerONE 01-30-2004, 12:17 AM Yeah the T2 CC was and probably still grossly underated. I loved the T2 Command Console and ashamingly admit never knew it's virtues till the last half end of t2 but it's great system and worth it's salt. What did you use of it? I typically used it to see incoming enemies. I also used it to track assets and find them quickly. Familiarize myself with a map. But, you don't need a CC to familiarize yourself with a map. And a RADAR on screen is MUCH more effective then screen blockout to check for enemies. While the CC had some use, I think there was too much there that offered very little. A simple radar is quicker/better than a CC. Wulfen 01-30-2004, 12:20 AM Wulfey remember when you played IR for the first time? I thought MY GOD THIS MAP IS TOO BIG. Yes, but unlike these 5-minute gamers with no brain functions, I stuck with it. : \ Sir Lucius 01-30-2004, 12:22 AM The one major thing that irked me was the movement in midair without jet power. I think there's a big misconception going on about this. I may be wrong, but I thought about it to myself, and here's what I came up with: pressing the left or right strafe key mid air automatically draws from your jets without pressing the jet button. Now, I could be wrong about that, but they did bind jump and jet together, so I don't see why they couldn't do something like this as well. Natural 01-30-2004, 12:23 AM Don't get too worried about movement in the air. I think it's supposed to me more of a glide than a change of direction, and it will still obide by the movment physics. If anything, this could add another tiny element of skill to the game. houston 01-30-2004, 12:25 AM And a RADAR on screen is MUCH more effective then screen blockout to check for enemies. While the CC had some use, I think there was too much there that offered very little. A simple radar is quicker/better than a CC. I disagree, I think the CC should be somewhat slow, it holds a lot of power. Knowing when someone is sneaking up behind you right away is a big problem I have with the radar. A lot of the depends on how 'good' the radar is. VirDT 01-30-2004, 12:25 AM What did you use of it? I typically used it to see incoming enemies. I also used it to track assets and find them quickly. I don't know what other teams used it for but a lot my team's strategy revolved around the cc map. We would issue orders we would set way points. We would expand the radar field in a number of ways so that we could keep an eye on things. I loved the constant war of keeping our net deployed and trying to shut the other team's net down. All it did was add to the game and I think most newbies can grasp the concept of radar. sil 01-30-2004, 12:25 AM will be very disappointed if CC and cloak is not included They are so underated. The cloak pack adds a different dimension to the game when the experienced player gotten bored with just dueling Moolz 01-30-2004, 12:26 AM 1. I also used to see and waypoint incoming enemies. 2. to waypoint friendlies. 3. to track assets and find them quickly but the only asset worth tracking in t2 now is the inv station which now has a beacon built in. Sometimes in pubs, I use it to find out where the non farming dipshit put his dumbass turrets so I can go kill them and use them for myself :D 4. To waypoint enemies incoming for my team, especially when I'm HDing waypointing the enemy is fun and increases a bit of awareness. It's like a manual happy mod feature. 5. And extensively, I use the video screen at the very bottom to watch or check any offense HO/O set and attack his obejective and to see his status when I'm capping or to know exactly what condition/situation they're in. Helps me a lot. And being I just retired from leading a t2 tribe, I used the vid monitor to check status and make sure people playing certain roles were indeed doing what they were supposed to be doing. 6. The over all map helped me see just how much enemy offense was coming and just how much of our offense we had atm which allowed me to understand if we were coordinating properly. The t2 CC is a great tool. Zoolooman 01-30-2004, 12:27 AM I don't want to see the cloak pack or the shocklance. Good riddance. The glide idea really helps. They're calling a drift, so now I can see how it could work. I think when one thinks in terms of the lateral strafe they just forget about the change in altitude and invison something unnatural looking. I can agree with you somewhat on the moving in MA without jets but It is also true you can change your direction somewhat in MA by tossing your body around, I am wondering if this is what they were thinking of when they put that in. I have cable and I didn't have feed issues. As for the bots he said that at the moment the bots are extremely accurate and could slaughter the dev players easily (this was also mentioned in a DEV Diary a month or 2 ago). This is why 5150 kicked ass. they were smart and probably one of very few that used this to their great advantage. I believe it mostly got ignored other wise or used for small menial tasks. Never takin for granted it's over all purpose.
