Well, O snipers or anyone camping the v-pad took advantage of the vunerable state you'd be in by picking at u with laser shots or disk spamming or w/e while trying to buy a vehicle.

Even though the vehicle spawn points aren't destructible in Vengeance like the article says they're still static, no? You'll probably still a slight problem with camping.

looks like the pod is as said, a huge jetpack essentially. dunno more but it looks like the cover screenshot has it lying down, with the straps where it goes around the players arms (like a bookbag) facing up

I think we would see legs in the second pic if that was the case. I think you stradle the brown part in the first pic, that's the seat. In the second pic it is tilted forward and that red thing in the center is the guy's back. To be honest there are parts on the second pic that aren't right at all. Look at where the thrust ports are pointing in the first pic, they are up high and the vehicle is level on the ground. However in the second pic the angle of the ports isn't much higher but yet the reticle is aimed down. Also the tubes that connect the side parts are different. Maybe the first one is drawn and the second one is real.

I think it looks like the little bike darth maul rides in Episode 1. It would be cool if it handled sorta similar to the grav bike, only it wouldn't flip over and die immediately.

Vehicles don't have to be effective to be FUN.

I played around in a T1 scout frequently, even though I was probably more effective naked. It was fun flying around and trying to MA people.

I sure hope this isnt the information we were gonna get tommorow....if so suprise is ruined......=(. Or some details on this would be nice.

That gun on the upper left hand corner of page 2 looks like that blaster we've heard about. The flying thing looks AWSOME, specially that whole air/underwater things its got going on. The mapper/mod making capabilities look great also.

The O sniping actually happened in T1 and not T2, and the only time it happened was on the pubs. When vehicle pads were taken down in T2 they were taken down by shrikes or by bombers. The "killing anyone who was trying to get a vehicle" happened more from tking from your own team then from the enemy. So having the thing already built isn't so bad but having the pad invulnerable, I think that's a bit too much. Hopefully if that is set in stone they can at least be disabled by taking the power down.

I'm sure they will be.. strange logic if they can't, but I guess we'll see.

This isn't Halo, we're not driving the buggy to see how many flips we can get. There is absolutely a certain amount of effectiveness that must be achieved.

So far, effective vehicles have never worked well in Tribes. In T2, they make being infantry much less fun. It just sucks to get run down by a Shrike, mortared by a tank, or bombed by a bomber. It diminshes the experience of playing.

IMO, vehicles are best being fun for newbs and bored vets but ultimately not that effective. (Like T1) . . . unless they can find more creative ways to make them effective in T:V.

Thrax already posted.. The vehicles are not going to rule the battlefield.. they will be part of the game but the potential to hit very fast ski routes etc will be ultimately faster then vehicles.. Im sure there will be many uses for them but they will not be the focal point. I don't think you will see any shrike capping or the same amount of use like in t2.

Uh, you're high. Do you even play T2? That shit still happens today but is minimal on popular pub servers because of admins and vote kicks to keep the idiots out. But yea, that problem was mainly focused in pubs. In matches it's a wasted effort hence the shrike and bombers are more effective. Even so, Classic and smaller maps have nullified this almost completely.

Good point on indestructible pads because it was a valid tactic in matches in how the game or match actually went. =V= & 5150 went back and forth this way in matches of old kept the excitement up pretty good cause 5150 owned with vehicles. Keeping the vpad down or up determined how the match went. It was never really an issue in the balance factor.

I think the vehicle should still be created but the vpad station be more gaurded perhaps in it's own structure as opposed to being out in the open. Makes more sense.

instead you have this bf1942 concept for convenience which to me is silly and almost untribesy.

You're thinking in extremes if you think there is only two options (T2 = Effective vrs T1 = not effective). No one ever complained about the tank or the bomber in T2, it was the shrike that needed to be balanced and everyone knows it. All the T2 vehicles were fun to use and I think it is extremely unfair for the concept of vehicles to get a black eye because of what happened with the shrike. It sounds to me like you are a fan of T1, if you so you are going to be disappointed because they are not replicating just T1.

And Moolz: thanks for filling me in on what happened in the 5150 vrs vanguard matches, you certainly would know better then me :)

The pod looks like something Dr. Robotnik (bad guy from Sonic the Hedgehog) would use.
I was thinking The Jetsons.

Blarg. I mean no disrespect to the artist of the pod, but it just doesn't seem like 'tribes'. To me it looks like what a VW Beatle might look like 300 years from now. I personally would prefer to fly a porsche. I would love to see a pod that was more sleek, and less hover oriented. It looks just sort of goofy, vs militaristic. If I had more artistic training I might be able to explain why, so my appologies for being vague. I offer this only as constructive criticizm (and it's only because the rest of the game looks so amazing and atmospheric that the pod sticks out for me).

BTW am I the only one who imagines vehicles would be fun as the showboat weapons...being able to do barrel rolls, massive jumps with the buggy, that kind of thing? Sure you might be able to go faster skiing, but being able to loop-the-loop with friends and swerve through valleys mightbe a whole lot of fun.

That would be interesting, if the POD didn't have its own gun, but let you use your own weapons.
