Skeletor666 01-27-2004, 12:48 AM Meaning will it be possible to play on more then one box at a time in a small LAN party setting.
Thats how you realy spread a good game fast IMHO. Get them hooked on it at a LAN and then when they go home if they still want to play it make them go out and buy it
I belive with T2 everyone had to at least start the game with the disc in the drive and at map changes. I know I got at least 10 different guys hooked on T2 at a Lan from swaping out the CD in between games and Maps
Ixiterra 01-27-2004, 12:53 AM Legally? I sincerely doubt it. Illegally? Yes.
Skeletor666 01-27-2004, 12:57 AM Whats illegal about selling 10 more copies of the game?
Theta 01-27-2004, 01:08 AM you're technically supposed to have one cd per box, but whateva
Ixiterra 01-27-2004, 01:41 AM Whats illegal about selling 10 more copies of the game?
It should be illegal for people with an IQ under 75 to continue to live.
RegisteredFruit 01-27-2004, 02:18 AM you're going to jail.
Phaseshift 01-27-2004, 09:44 AM I guessing they will make a multiplayer demo with one or two maps. That would be good to use for such a lan party (and legal too, and also moral).
Fling 01-27-2004, 09:48 AM I always thought starcraft spawn system was good. T1 spawn system was good too... and even T2's was good for lan play.
Fling :D
ConfigSys.boy 01-27-2004, 10:08 AM Well since the BETA will be open, it would seem to follow that plenty of people will have the chance to LAN it early before the game goes GOLD and get hooked that way...
Stage01 01-27-2004, 10:13 AM It should be illegal for people with an IQ under 75 to continue to live.
100 is average
120 is average for an adult
140 is gifted
160 is Genius
80 and below is retarded I think.
IQ = Phyiscal Age/ Mental Age. Or something like that...
So ixterra you got a problem with the special kids...thats messed up.
Rabid Poop 01-27-2004, 10:16 AM you're retarded stage01.

you're assuming that the beta will allow people to host servers. I've seen no indication one way or the other on that.

I don't think the dev team / company has the capacity to host all servers for the beta.... (this is no mmorpg)
Defaced 01-27-2004, 11:01 AM Stage is almost right. It is Mental Age/Chronological Age * 100.
But I think Genius starts at 140 or 141 officially...

My name... <draws sword> is IxIterra.
And 100-110 is average. There is no average "for an adult," otherwise why would mental age be a part of the equation. Regardless, die.
Skeletor666 01-27-2004, 12:20 PM Yeah the spawn feature was cool in fact thats what got me hooked on starcraft.
And the Demo for T2 if I remeber correctly didn't come out till way after the relase of the game
Devil Slayer 01-27-2004, 01:23 PM Legally? I sincerely doubt it. Illegally? Yes.
Its interesting that techinically it is illegal, yet for years game companies have purposefuly programmed it into games that you do not need CD verification, or CD key for LaN play. Half-life would be the biggest example I can think of right now, but I have only recently seen games like Halo, and NWN be stupid about the whole lanning thing.
I think that because its such a small environment, it gets people hooked, and it still deprives them of net play cuz thats where all the action is. It worked for my buddies at least, we all played Half-life at LaNs, but once we started getting good at MoD's like DoD, we needed to get online and compete, so they all bought legal versions.
Phaseshift 01-27-2004, 01:30 PM I think it is because those games have a single player component. They don't want to give single player away for free.
A spawn feature like starcraft's seems like a good idea for me, but most games don't have that. I guess it's not worth the trouble to implement.
SniperOmega 01-27-2004, 01:31 PM I think that the LAN area of the game shouldnt require a CD.. but still check the CDKEY

Dude. It's LAN, not LaN. And it's mod, not MoD. You type like a Californian.
And to install a game that has a CD key, you need a CD key, that's verification. You don't need a legit one for LAN play because there's no authentication server. Starcraft, and I believe WC2, are really the only games you can legally play on a LAN without owning a copy. It's not that other companies are "letting" you, they just can't do anything about it (except annoying and pointless shit like CD checks).
