I had a previous version of Nero on my compter that I got off of Kazaa. Whether it was ripped or a trail offer I dont know. Well now, after several months, a new computer, and a new windows install (on the new HD) it wont let me use it.

My new Nero disc (legal, came bundled with my Burner) wont install because it detects the old Nero. Of course, the lame software doesnt uninstall the old version and therefore there's an endless loop.

What can I do? Boot up from my old windows install and unistiall the progam that way? Poke around the registry till I find that file that is telling Nero to do the nono? Or something I cant fanthom?

Can XP burn CDs for me?

XP can burn, but Nero is far superior.

Have you tried manually deleting the old Nero installation folder yet? If you imported you old windows profile, there may also be Nero specific data in your profiles application data folder.

Deleting the HKLM\software\ahead and HKCU\software\ahead will wipe any old Nero infor from the registry.

I got rid of both an ahead and nero reg value but its still a no go.

Now, I purposefully did a fresh install of windows on my new HD, leaving - at least i think - my old windows XP install on my old HD which is slaved to the new one. Should I boot up with that HD (and from what Im led to believe that windows install) to uninstall Nero from there? Is there another registry for that seperate install? Or is there no such thing as a dual install? Am I an idiot?

If you did a fresh install and didn't import anything related to your old install, it should just go in without trouble.

If you think it is the old install, a sure way to isolate it out of the picture is to temporarily disconnect the slave drive with the old install. Try installing again fresh and see what happens.

You can have dual boot installs and run independant versions/installs. The manner in which you would do this is determined on how you did your intial secondary XP install.

If you completely remove any existing installation files and the root registry keys I mentioned earlier, it should install without troubles.
