Windows XP lost cdrom drivers

Heya

Having a bit of trouble with my old machine. It has, all of a sudden, started claiming it cannot find drivers for either the LG CED-8080b CD-RW or the Samsung DVD rom that have worked in it perfectly for some time. I have tried uninstalling both, and windows XP cannot seem to find the old drivers that it used before. I am, as you probably guessed, lacking the drivers for the two devices.

It's an AMD K62 475mhz w/ 128 SDRAM, running widows XP pro.

Very odd. If anyone could help me find out why it's doing this, or point me in the direction of a good database for drivers (neither website carries drivers for either anymore) I would be most grateful.

Cheers

you shouldnt really need drivers for either. try restoring your system to a point where they worked. if you still cannot see the devices then it might mean the controller died on your mobo.

My sister (who uses the computer) says she doesn't know when the two devices stopped working (she is a technophobe). I system restored about 2 weeks into the past to no avail. What can i do about a bust controller?

restore back as far as you can [ i think XP keeps 3 months or so] and check if the devices show up .you can always bring it back to present with a more recent restore. make sure that the devices are detected in the bios of your mobo. if not, you will probably have to replace the motherboard for a broken controller.
