K, I posted this in GD a while back, but it didnt help much..heh
anyway. I recently bought a new 19" NEC Multisync 97F flatscreen CRT monitor. It looks best in 1280x1024, and I run it at 85hz. Before this monitor, I was using a dell 15" CRT which ran at 1024x768 @ 60hz MAX.
After I boot my PC, and use it for a few hours (using winamp, twIRC, realone player, windows media player, aim, norton, etc.) it wont change resolutions. This is a pain in the ass, cause I can't play games without rebooting when it does this. Although, sometimes if I hit ctrl-alt-delete and close a bunch of extra processes like opera, quickputty, irc, aim, and the like, then it WILL change resolutions. It's a really sketchy problem, and I'm having a hard time narrowing it down.
I'm running the latest monitor and graphics card drivers, and windows is fully updated. I've tried rolling back the nvidia drivers all the way back to the 45's, and it didnt help.
Any suggestions?
**HARDWARE SPECS**
AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton XP
1gb Crucial PC2700 ram (333mhz)
MSI K7N2 Delta-L mobo w/ nforce2 chipset
PNY Verto geforce4 ti4200 graphics card (128mb)
NEC Multisync 97F 19" Flatscreen CRT
Maxtor 120gb HD (7200)
WD 80gb HD (7200)
also, in a possibly related topic, in aim, sometimes if I have a lot of programs open and try to send an image with a large file size, it wont show the image in the window...says theres not enough system resources. I'm thinking I may have some bad RAM or something. I ran a program called memchecker or something like that that is supposed to check all the ram for problems, but it didn't find anything wrong with it.
ALSO, shouldn't I be getting higher than 1583 in 3dmark03? :\
