XP changing folder viewing

XP is setting Desktop folders to View->Tiles, and I want Icons. I specify icons, do a "remember each windows whatever", but on a reboot, it goes back to tiles.

Did the hold alt or ctrl while closing, that didn't do shit.

Or rather, it thinks it does. Pain in the ass, I know...

You can stop some of it with TweakUI. There's also an option to disable thumbnails for image files, if that's similar to what you're talking about.
