slave drive with RAID-0

i have an asus a7v-266-e mobo running a RAID-0 config - the RAID drives are obviously hooked up to the promise ide 1 and 2 connectors. my optical drives share a cable on the secondary ata ide connector.

when i hook up my slave to the primary ata ide connector i either, depending on the jumper position get the following
jumper set to slave: boot error (corrupted file)
jumper set to CS: boot error (corrupted file)
jumper set to master (just for the hell of it): boot error (corrupted file)
no jumper at all: boots fine, but can't see the slave drive

thanks.

i didn't see anything there about slave drives. is it possible to have a slave with RAID0?

OK, WTF are you talking about? RAID 0 is disk striping and requires 2 or more physical drives. What are you calling a "slave"?

i have 2 drives set up in the RAID 0 config - that's done - works fine.

i have another HDD that i'd like to use as a slave with all my crap on it. i listed above the several ways i've tried to connect it ie. jumper settings

just wondering if i can use a slave drive with the RAId config.

OK, it wouldn't be a slave if it were on its own IDE controller. You confused me with that term. Set the jumper to Stand Alone (or Master if your drive doesn't allow Stand Alone). Put it wherever you want on the cable (end is probably best), and plug it into the Primary IDE Controller.

Then go into your BIOS and make sure that the RAID Device is the first boot device. That should get you into Windows, so you can format the new IDE drive and be on your way.

thanks data - i guess i always assumed a secondary drive was called a "slave". i appreciate your help.
