Im a huge fan of anime, I like it subbed or dubbed, doesnt matter to me. Now the purest out there would crucify me for saying i like dubbed, but hey, sue me.
Anyways, I think the whole tribes story could make a nice anime series. I have thought of two ways to do this.
#1 Either have a very long series, in which future conflicts are resolved by militaries engaged in virtual combat, in which the combatants fight each other virtually to resolve conflicts. It would use the tribes weapons and such, and would essentually be a 20-30 person per side conflict in which whoever gains control over the bases, is the winner. Once you die, wouldnt be brought back either.
#2 would be a short lived series and it would be like a regular tribes adventure where theres some sorta conflict in which two/three different races must fight to resolve. Would have maybe 26 + episodes to resolve conflict.
The first series is essentually an idea that could be made untill people got tired of it. The second one would be a short term series designed to just get people interested. Also, this could boost sales of any and all tribes related stuff. Plus if there was a sequal game, which would/evntually happen, it would help with sales + a first person game story as well.
Any thoughts ??? please leave flaming to a minimal.
Thanks, heh.

Doaln 12-25-2003, 10:58 PM a Tribes cartoon? I'd like to see it....
Riavan 12-25-2003, 10:59 PM Dont say cartoon, say anime, we dont want disney trying to make it. :closet:
The 26 series where it isnt "virtual" sounds better, could be based around that julia character or anything like that. Maybe starting at the first generation of warriors born in the wilderzone?
A Cartoon, NEVER. A Anime, perhaps !!!
hehe.
Maybe Madhouse Animation could do the artwork on it.
Both would be somewhat violent in nature. I think the first series could/would be a little less violent, but the second type would be VERY violent !!!
Got to love sex + violence in cartoons, hehe.
JK about the sex.
To be honest, I would love to see/read the background stories of all the tribes games first, and then outline the series from there. Both could be very good indeed. If you sorta think of the 1 series as a transformers meets gundam wing, except no giant robots, hehe, but the stories/conflicts of both, it could work very nicely. Got some great ideas for stories, archs, and such.
BTW, Idea is copywrited by posr, hehe.

Nikita 12-25-2003, 11:15 PM Apparently it did not take off; they were going to have a cartoon made. :hrm:

Hurm, maybe they didnt think of going the anime route. With good story writing, and a good animation house, I would recomment someone either in japan or korea, sorry american houses, but they just own at the cell/computer animation.
I think it would first have to maybe run in japan and then be picked up over in the startes, but it really comes down to the writing. Granted it might seem a lil complicated, but look at banner of the stars/crest of the stars series. It was almost one of the most complicated stories I think. Or the mind trip or Lain, or even gasaraki ?
I dont think Anime in general really genres what it is, other then anime. I do think people will classify them into funny or serious anime's. Good or bad. Thats about it.
As for good, neat sci-fi type animes, check out blue-gender. Its about as close of a tribes type/style for anime there is. Many other good sci-fi animes, but thats about it.
Oh the other thing you could look at is the cartoon series of wing-commander. Or the CGI series of Starship Troopers, aka Rednecks.
But story wise, I think this could really work in terms of a series. I think both series will be serious type series, but if you wanted to gear it more for younger viewers, the first type could be kiddied up. I think the more serious/violent one would be the second one. The first few episodes would introduce whats happening in the galaxy, the current conflicts, and then it could go from there. Have a centralize conflict, maybe a little betrayel as a story arch, and then the resolution.
Riavan 12-25-2003, 11:20 PM Events based around the very end of starseige would be nice... etc
Imperial strikeforce invades Wilderzone
The Blood Eagle Order of Imperial Knights journeys to the frontier of known space in pursuit of a band of separatist religious fanatics calling themselves 'The Children of Phoenix.' The Eagle onslaught is ferocious and masterfully orchestrated resulting in a 'Splintering' of the separatist movement into numerous self sustaining Tribes. - starsiegeuniverse.com
Maybe a children of the phoneix character (as a kid)thats watches as his family get slaughtered around him, say like a phophet of some kind. So the phoneix are trying to cover him as a couple of people are trying to pull him onto a ship. As they're out of the atmosphere, the phoneix on the planet blow it up, destroying both themselves and the main wave of the blood eagles.... so many years later, blahblahblah

Explain cowboy bebop?
The sci-fi genre suffers from starwars episode 1 and 2
Shinigami 12-25-2003, 11:26 PM Really, what do you think the ratio is between crap and non crap with anime?

Never seen that before, but yeah it does look crap, anime is only successful if...
1)Serious but not all the time
2)Characters need to be pretty freegoing, not tense up there ass types
3)a hot chick main character/side character
4)Rustic wasteland things seem to work well, I think it would be better if there wasnt massive space wars and such, sci-fi blows when they turn to that kinda stuff
Inspin 12-25-2003, 11:28 PM yawn
Theta 12-25-2003, 11:34 PM there was going to be a cartoon made by someone from the tribes community, but evidently it didn't take off :|
In terms of crap I would have to say right off hand, excel saga. The series made absolutely no point whatsoever. It was the worst writing, even tho it was funny as hell, it was senseless. Made none whatsoever. Thats about the only one ive seen I had a very strong feeling of pure crap story wise. Theres many I dont really care for the sotry but can see its appeal to others, but this one, I dont. On a key note tho, the anime creator is in the series as a character, which was kinda neat, but still have to say I Dislike Excel Saga Very MUCH. Some of the greatest stories in anime have been IMO Berserk, tho its a imcomplete anime series, has continuation in manga form, blue gender, cowboy bebop, escaflowne, gasaraki,Noir, hellsing - even tho it was a short series, hurm X, and theres a lot of others I could name. Each has its own little thing. Wolfs Rain, when it comes to the US will be a nice edition as well. But while the sotry is important, probably 60 %, I would have to say the animation + music are just as important. When they are all done and applied symbiotically, the series just comes together, and you can really immerse yourself into it.
The way that series look that they were creating seems more like a US cartoon. I dont think it will thrive as a cartoon. I think it has to be a Anime !!! Then and only then will it boost strong ratings, and have halfway desent sales.
Riavan 12-25-2003, 11:47 PM I saw the trailer for excel saga, and never touched it. I've seen a fair amount of anime series... Cowboy bebop is by far my favorite
Yea, the only thing I hated about cowboy bebop is the ended. The traditional John Woo Ending with the heroin taking a fall. Kinda sad. The movie was a nice tie in with the series, but CB had the makings of being a nice LONG series if it wanted to...:(
Also, love the soundtracks of the series. They are fantastic.Yokko is a wonderful composer in terms of fitting the music perfectly with the show. Worked GREAT !!!
Zoolooman 12-26-2003, 12:28 AM Two-things:
SPOILERS POSR. I've seen the show, but other's haven't. Use the [spoiler] tag.
Riaven: Wow, you provided one of several exceptions to the general trend. Want to name Crest or Battleflag of the Stars? How about Legends of Galactic Heroes?
Exceptions always exist.
That said, I've seen almost all the popular sci-fi anime shows, and the majority of them do a disservice to the science fiction genre.
In much of pop-culture, sci-fi/fantasy is considered a pulp or pop-philosophy genre, which is mostly an untrue impression in terms of classic sci-fi literature. This is largely the fault of anime and the sci-fi channel, which are the two biggest "channels" of entry off sci-fi stories into the modern popular culture.
Then again, maybe it is just the resurgence of pulp as the popular form of fiction that makes popular sci-fi in entertainment so different from the sci-fi literature. *shrug*
boschetaru 12-26-2003, 12:56 AM Anime sucks, end of discussion.
They should make it either a cartoon similar to Jackie Chan, or make a damn real movie with real people. I bet they have the funds.
