A Tribes Anime ???r00fies 12-29-2003, 12:52 PM Anime sucks, end of discussion. Tycho 12-29-2003, 01:04 PM all I can say is... I hope not... Data 12-29-2003, 01:24 PM Shut up r00fies. Your opinion doesn't count. |zVx|Teflon 12-29-2003, 02:06 PM no hes right. anime looks gay. Tribes isnt even japanese. Zeus 12-29-2003, 02:44 PM No, somebody approached us with a desire to make a Tribes animated series. They wanted us to fund them and then split the profits. They had nothing done, and no way to get anything done until we funded them. It sounded like a good way to lose some money fast, so I passed on it. If I hadn't passed on it there would still be about 4 levels of bureaucracy above me that would have each decided to pass on it also. It never came close to getting started. It wasn't the right time for the Tribes Franchise (Bioderms are lose) nor what I was trying to acomplish. My approach was all wrong with Sierra, you live and you learn right? heh... The Anime style was purely conceptual design. A few companies such as Roughneck Studios (Starship Troopers CGI) and Foundation Imaging were interested. Blake Hutchins, the backstory writer for the franchise was on board and had written a pilot episode. It was gritty but marketable to ages ranging from 13 and up. Besides, every popular cartoon makes their profit from Merchandise and now DVD sales. You would only lose cash if you didn't know how to market the toys, gadgets, videos and what have you. Nerf Spinfusor for teh win. ;) Roadkill(er) 12-29-2003, 07:05 PM anime isn't required to be japanese. Anime is short for animation, so basically its just like an animated version of soap operas. :p Cartoons are the poorly done sketches used for entertaining 3 year olds. |zVx|Teflon 12-29-2003, 07:30 PM A few companies such as Roughneck Studios (Starship Troopers CGI) and Foundation Imaging were interested. that would have looked so much better than anime. Validuz 12-29-2003, 07:31 PM This is the worst fucking Idea I've ever heard... Congrats. posr 12-29-2003, 07:46 PM anime isn't required to be japanese. I just have to say LOL to that. Most Japanese would definitely disagree with you there, so would most that enjoy anime. The die hard anime fans would say there is CLEARLY a distinction between anime and cartoons. Thats all. pyrot3chnic 12-29-2003, 07:54 PM while we're at it, lets talk movies.. ben afleck as the main character, and liv tyler as his love interest.. ben is faced with a tough task of saving the world from... o wait. Anime is short for animation, so basically its just like an animated version of soap operas. :p Cartoons are the poorly done sketches used for entertaining 3 year olds. Walt Disney, Chuck Jones, Friz Freleng, Tex Avery, and the like might disagree with your definition of "cartoons". Roadkill(er) 12-29-2003, 08:10 PM what a melodramatic, and thus lame, story! to posr. There is diff - anime is for adult and mature audiences, while cartoons are designed for still growing minds. Meaning they have stupidity all about them. Some anime can be called a cartoon, however, for its endlessly stupid stories (DBZ, Gundam Wing), though it may have some (or in the case of DBZ, alot) gore that may need editted out. I know a few die hard anime fan freinds, but i am not one of them. I don't have the time nor money to follow any of it. Except for some of the better movies. pyrot3chnic 12-29-2003, 09:08 PM If there is even a possibility of a future animation/comic book for the story of the tribes universe (which i hope there will be), the way I'd like to see it done is Marvel's style. Their work just ends up with a lot of action, even though they're still pictures. I love their work, I'm currently perfecting my own, but basing it off of artists like Stan Lee and Adam Kubert.. http://py.suavesports.com/uxmen-wolverine.jpg http://py.suavesports.com/uxmen-nightcrawler.jpg Roadkill(er) 12-29-2003, 09:34 PM the problem with that is that all the action revolves around the unique abilities of the few characters. Which is why there was less action of the old fighters in X2 than X1. In the tribes universe, bouncing around in jets in commonplace, so it'd be much harder to make action hold your attention for more than a small bit. Which means it has to be mostly political (though please not something like The Phantom Menace), or spent on character development. And with character development, it's gotta be the good fighters, who always win, because in a real battle alot of someones are going to have to die. Shinigami 12-29-2003, 09:41 PM Haha. The term "anime" may not mean japanese animation, but it has been used to name the broad catagory for a long time. Of course, despite the many ignorant generalizations, that doesn't mean that any of them have to be similar in any way. There are titles of anime for all ages and all genres of theatre. Not even the style of animation is constant. That said, I don't think the Tribes series would make a good basis for any kind of television series or movies. Dac346_99 12-29-2003, 11:02 PM lol... what a waste of money. how bout backpacks and polo shirt line and fast food restraunts? Ztir 12-29-2003, 11:32 PM To be honest, I would love to see/read the background stories of all the tribes games first, and then outline the series from there. Both could be very good indeed. If you sorta think of the 1 series as a transformers meets gundam wing, except no giant robots, hehe, but the stories/conflicts of both, it could work very nicely. Got some great ideas for stories, archs, and such. BTW, Idea is copywrited by posr, hehe. someone beat you to it by a couple of years kru$h 12-30-2003, 12:36 AM lol... what a waste of money. how bout backpacks and polo shirt line and fast food restraunts? you would be amazed at how many people actually buy that crap.
