That said, I've seen almost all the popular sci-fi anime shows, and the majority of them do a disservice to the science fiction genre.
I would really like to know what you classify as real sci-fi ? going back to the books of jules verne, or even older ? I mean, i think its a disservice to try to say new sci-fi works arent true sci-fi. I think sci-fi evolves as a genre just like other genres, and perhaps it should have a sub-genre just like the music genre ROCK has now. huh ??? Anyways, I believe the stories of most anime to be far better then some live action movies. For the most part, I think cartoons just suck. Some serve their purposes like Jackie Chan, X-men, but thats about all I can name. I think if the tribes show were to become a cartoon like, starship troopers infinity ? , i think its called, Then that would be the real disservice to the community. The game is violent by nature, and trying to create a kid friendly show just shouldnt happen. The market for this show if it were to become should be teen-adult. I think a well done japanese animation house/good voice/and music would make it popular with those that play the game along with those who just enjoy anime.
Oh, some of the great anime movies,
Jin-roh, grave of the fireflies, I consider this a 3 part movie/or short series, its only 15 episodes, but Now + then, Here + there, metropolis, spirited away, hurm, theres others, but this is long enough, heh.
A Anime version of Tribes could and would work, but target audiance should be teens-adults.
Zoolooman 12-26-2003, 01:53 AM How about this, I'm not going to dignify your post with a proper point by point response because I'm lazy and I'm not going to go defining an entire genre accurately for just any random poster on TribalWar.
Note please, that I didn't say they weren't sci-fi works; I said they did a disservice to the genre.
Nothing more. Now drop it. You just wrote a long, ranting post because I - a man on the internet - made a one-liner generalization that both you and I know isn't completely accurate. Now that you've spoken your mind, and I've read it, we can leave it at that.
(P.S. My entire disgust with anime is the idea that suddenly animating something in the Japanese style will make a bad story good. That is an idea I've seen anecdotally in creepy internet anime populations.)

Well I wasnt attacking you personally, but I love how you dance around my post ;( And then have to add a lil insult by saying someone who randomly post ;( again sigh. But oh well. I just have a preference for japanese/korean animation over american/european. Its just a style thing. I think Tribes would/could rock as a anime over there and eventually here. Theres different aspects of the game that could relate over to a anime style series. Just IMO tho.
Also, I do agree there are shitty animes, with bad stories, even tho the art/music my be wonderful, a lack of story telling does greatly inpact the genre. But fortunately I seem to only like those animes most find very well done !
hehe
Shinigami 12-26-2003, 05:34 AM Anime sucks, end of discussion.
They should make it either a cartoon similar to Jackie Chan, or make a damn real movie with real people. I bet they have the funds.
boschetaru sucks, end of discussion LOL
There was talk of a Tribes series when T2 came out. But the powers that be decided to wait for a more successful title.
or make a damn real movie with real people. I bet they have the funds.
ehhh...guess you dont have a slightest clue of how much money that would take.
Thrax Panda 12-26-2003, 04:34 PM Apparently it did not take off; they were going to have a cartoon made. :hrm:No, somebody approached us with a desire to make a Tribes animated series. They wanted us to fund them and then split the profits. They had nothing done, and no way to get anything done until we funded them. It sounded like a good way to lose some money fast, so I passed on it. If I hadn't passed on it there would still be about 4 levels of bureaucracy above me that would have each decided to pass on it also. It never came close to getting started.
Thrax Panda 12-26-2003, 04:37 PM Anime sucks, end of discussion.

Nikita 12-26-2003, 05:38 PM Would be nice if some community members whose expertise delves into the CG world came up with a bunch of nice Tribes-related shorts. And after a while they could perhaps have a spin off series and/or a movie made (based on their results and popularity of course).
Ive acctually looked at the possibility of doing some of this personally, either with lightwave/maya, maybe 3d studio max, but here is where the problem comes in. You have to have voice actors, for each character, sound effects gallore. It becomes more and more complicated per scene depending on what sound fxs you think you will need, should need, and then were talking multiple tracks, usually at least 4-8 on a minimal. and doing a short thats 5-10 minutes with different actors and all that stuff, it would probably take a year or so for a single person do tackle such a feat, especially if they are still pretty much an amateur, not working with all the industry standard equipment. But it would be kool !!! heh.
SonGohan 12-26-2003, 07:08 PM Hate to break your bubble, but Jackie Chan is pseudo-anime, highly influenced by it.
Is it written somewhere in the Tao of Tribes that we must have this thread every six months?
Maybe I've just been here too long and I'm jaded... :bandit:
Roadkill(er) 12-26-2003, 08:05 PM Alright, unless it is done by the same people who made Ghost in the Shell -- no anime. Let's not ruin a masterpeice.
Nope, i'm looking for a movie. Massive computer effects will be needed, to save money on costumes, sets, special effects. Or japanese computer animation (like seen in Final Fantasy: The Spirits WIthin) -- but please use the technology, not the cheesy scenes and lines.
I don't like the idea of a series. Everything is not concrete in a series, and once you start you cannot stop till the end of a season. REAL easy to screw things up in a series, and give a bad impression.
Arnold Swarchenegger (how to you spell that?) could appear in the film, but not as a main character. Stay away from Tom Cruise. I have no real actor preference. Just make sure they all look like real, combat hardened men and women.
No cheesy "oh we're fighting for this great cause, and i'm going to end up dieing in the end" This shouldn't be a sad, stupid story. It should be epic (though not star wars epic). I think someone said it before in this thread -- focus on the planet battles, not the stupic space battles. THat shouldn't be too hard, since on the planet is where the eyecandy is in Starseige Tribes.
Each of the four clans should be somewhat equally represented in the film (with preference to the main character's clan). It should be made clear that there are no real bad guys, but that each clan is fighting for their own good purpose and cause, and each have their own fighting and strategic style, according to their tribe profile (Which means diamond sword are not going to be barbaric), though do not take that too literally and make the starwolf COMPLETELY savage -- they, too, are human and as they progress in the ranks are made more cultured.
If you must need a bad guy, zoom to the point in the timeline and go to the introduction of the bioderm. THen, for a sequel, or twist in the first, have the "empire" (or whatever is dominate on earth by then) rediscover the tribes (since the tribes came to be by wandering in their battles outside the reach of the Empire). THis should have a really interesting on the Tribes, particularly the Blood Eagle, who were directly sent into the frey by the peoples of Earth. Would it make them more peaceful? More towards the goals of the Harbringers of the Pheonix?
What of the pheonix? when does he arrive? Perhaps he is reincarnated as a member of another clan? (the "Pheonix" should not be portrayed as directly immortal, but indirectly. As in, he is extremely hard to kill, though he bleeds)
The possibilities are endless. I say, make it a movie, make it epic, and for godsakes, don't badinize any of the clans. By this i mean portray as evil, and make stupid (which killed the LOTR series in the end, for me). The Empire can be portrayed as ignorant to the ways of the clans, but they won't be evil. The bioderms will inevitably be badinized a bit, but they are seeking revolution and freedom.
That is what i say. If i knew the life of a film director to be stable, i would be one.
Nomble 12-26-2003, 10:52 PM OMGDRAGONBALLZOMG!
I think an Anime would be nice. But when would it take place? During T1, T2, or T:V? And what would it revolve around? Starwolf, BioDerm, Sandrakers, etc.?
I think if there were to be one, it should revolve aorund the Starwolf. I feel sympathy for a Tribes that nearly got crushed by something created by their ancestors (by that I mean the older Empire, before the Tribes were formed).
Roadkill(er) 12-26-2003, 11:57 PM T:V would be the natural easy choice, since it is completely set up by the game. But movie goers aren't gamers.
I think T2, or just before it, set everything up perfectly for a gripping story, if done right. Harbringers of Pheonix are prophesizing the Pheonix's return, the Bioderms are just invading, and since there is no future written after it, you can through in anything interesting -- like re-introduction of Earth, as i said before.
The problem with this thread is, who would take this idea and run with it? No one -- series aren't profitable enough.
Well the idea could be this, the first one would be after all the real violent fighting, and conflicts would be done in virtual environments, have weapons/environment that they fought with way back in the day, but it be done in virtual playfields, either in tubes where military forces jak into, or in a virtual arena.
That would be a series that could contain seasons if wanted.
The second would be during bloody wars in the tribes universe, any time range during the T:V saga, through T2 would be acceptable, and would be INCREDIBLY violent and bloody. This would be a traditional 26 episode series where theres a conflict. This one seems more plausible to me in terms of cost of production, see if the idea/concept takes off. If it does, then you could have the spinoff series that i stated above, hehe.
|zVx|Teflon 12-27-2003, 02:28 AM i hate anime, i think it looks like garbage. they should make it like the old CG Starship troopers show. that would look better.
Ashaman 12-27-2003, 11:37 AM I think an anime would be far more doable then a movie, and it would probably be better too. I think it could be pretty good.
Roadkill(er) 12-27-2003, 12:28 PM I still vote away from the anime series. It could easily turn into something all about fighting and action that little is focused on making a good story and the like. Or if there is a story, it mayend up like gundam wing or DBZ.
Without a good story and plot, this series would be a little less than all the others. why? First off, it has nothing great or special in it besides the fighting -- which many shows *coughDBZcough* tried to base it all on. Second, because of the very fact that it was based off of a game. I do not think you should just throw this out there saying it should be done without laying some guidelines down for it to be done -- considering the risks and the hurdles you have to leap.
Riavan 12-28-2003, 07:03 PM You need money to make anime? I'd rather just have a few dodgey guys working in the basement, they make say an episode demo, then if its good, try and get someone to sponsor (if it looks nice im sure madman or something would at least be interested) by the looks of that cartoon they were making, the main character already looked gay
