How would it mess up a game? my computer is kinda slow and i play games with punkbuster all the time set at max details. My specs are 1.7ghz Geforce4MX and 600 ram games like Americas Army and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory And i dont have no problems ever

There is no "aboslute" solution to stop cheats. Only ways to lower the amount of cheaters. Punkbuster does a great job on that, its not perfect but it is something useful. Many people have been caught cause of punkbuster and been banned a year off of twl and cal. As long as the game is supported well and pb keeps updating, a lot of damage will be inflicted on the cheaters. But there comes a time when the game loses support and pb stops updating.

Yes, it's definately a detterent more than a STOP to cheating. I very much look forward to Punkbuster being used with T:V right from the get go. T:V's soooo gonna rock..

Well, I don't exactly know what the average computer is nowadays, but a 1.7 with a gf4mx certainly isn't "slow."

Ah, the logic here is staggering. Some people have the sense to realize that no matter what, there will still be cheaters. And because they say that, you are basically accusing them of being cheaters, or cheater sympathizers? Give me a break. I merely acknowledge one thing: every anti-cheat can be countered with an anti-anti-cheat. Do whatever it takes to eliminate 90-95% of the cheaters out there, but don't spend massive resources trying to capture the elusive remaining percentage. It's just not going to work.

I said these threads crack me up because the people who argue against cheat prevention give no alterior methods. If you aren't cheating, what's the point? They certainly aren't helping prevent cheating, which is what I stated already (reading comprehension). They certainly aren't bringing any new ideas to the table. If you're under the belief that no cheat prevention solves something, then you sir need to go back to school and learn some basic problem solving. Cheat prevention is just that PREVENTION. Let me get you a definition for it so you can understand better:

No where does it say "stops". It says "impedes" "hinderance", both of which can obviously be surpassed. Again, reading comprehension.

Cheat prevention is just that. At best we're going to catch the casual cheaters. Expecting anything more would be ignorant, but saying the solution lies in no cheat prevention at all is just plain stupidity.

Ixterra and x66, you guys are both two of the most argumentative people I've ever encountered in these forums (tribes talk), and both of you hardly ever post anything worth reading considering none of it ever has any counter logic in it. Just flames and heresay (oh and spelling and grammar checks as main counter insults, ooooOOoooo) that drag these threads out to ungodly page counts for no reason. Grow up and try and be objective. Learn reading comprehension for God's sake.

The law of diminishing returns. If it takes x amount of effort to eliminate 90% of cheaters, and x*2 to eliminate the next 5 percent, why bother? It is not worth the time, money, nor inconvenience to other players to achieve it. For some reason, you keep thinking that I'm saying that any cheat prevention is bad, when it's more like saying "we must update every 2.6 minutes with a new, highly encrypted super secret code that sends a memory dump to assure no tampering, blah blah blah" is ridiculous. And there have been suggestions akin to this in the thread.

No, I've never had any problems with punkbuster on any of my machines.

Simply hide the location of characters very good.. along with this cant u make it so the mouse has to move in order to get a location.. somehow make it so you have to use the mouse etc.. to me this is the only real deterent. make them actually move the mouse somehow.i got no clue how to do this though but it seems the only way.

I dont know maybe make it so the cursor has to move from point a to point b.. no teleporting (base this on ping etc or something) with mouse movement even with the best there is some jerkiness etc... you could easily tell an autoaim from normal firing if you had some way to detect mouse movement patterns etc.

maybe even add variables to the game with direction speed etc. and watch if a player will lock onto this spot. make it so it is impossible to see except the variables and no model graphics... aka no polygons etc just the locations vectors etc. if a player hits it etc or locks on then ban.

also to get rid of color cheats where players lockon to a certain color and fire on it.. maybe allow jet trails to be made like a rainbow in colors on MP as an option so they might shoot the jet trails instead.

I think you're name should be changed to Oxymoronic. You are the embodyment of a living contradiction. When someone states that cheat prevention could be beefed up in some way, you say cheat prevention is dumb because it doesn't do anything to the people who are going to cheat. (arguing for arguments sake: see your responses to thrax and screen shot ideas)

Then when people clarify it for you, that they're only going after the 95%, you say that the originally stated would be rediculous and overkill, of which was already determined. (arguing for arguments sake: see my thread)
