I guess the big one is putting the activate pack key closer to the left hand.
P is such a inefficient way to feather shields or use an energy burst. I have always prefered F using a WASD layout.
Also the zoom keys have always been awkward, Z and E are t1 defaults I think, I think Z and shift Z would be the best, if you are holding down Z you can hit shift to cycle zoom.
C is usually command map, but honestly its not a key than you need to access regularly or quickly, so M might work better, and then mine can be on C for a easy mine disk, should that be included.
Also, control/shift/alt + scroll wheel would be a good thing to have, if it isn't in already. (weapons, zoom level, etc)
|MrSniper|Nyx 12-22-2003, 05:44 PM With ESDF, all the other default controls make sense (the T2 defaults). I think the only changes I may have made would be: mine -> C, grenade -> G. Those may ever be defaults but I its been 2 years since I messed with those config controls.
I did remap throw flag to capslock when TR2 came out, and my zoom has also been hooked to my scroll wheel (an essential for a sniper).
KillerONE 12-22-2003, 05:48 PM Activate pack for ESDF peeps was R, easy reach.. (in T2)
Only one that was hard to reach for me, was targeting laser.. Useful now and again.. Use it alot for TR2.
Some chat binds had me using my right hand, or long reaches with the left.
At some point, you have to have some hard to reach keys, unavoidable. Just don't make those hard to reach keys, the ones you want to use all the time.. :)
KillerONE 12-22-2003, 05:50 PM And, to add, EVERYONE is different and it's impossible to make everyone happy. As long as the keys are re-bindable (duh) that should be good enough. It would be a waste of time to try to make the PERFECT key bind setup for Thrax, when none of us would get it, and just do what we ALWAYS do, rebind for familiarity. :)
also, make the suicide button much more accessible than ctrl+k...

I guess the big one is putting the activate pack key closer to the left hand.Currently it's 'Q'.
Our goal is to get everything you need on one side of an ergonomic keyboard, and everything that you don't need will be in somebody else's game :)
Sir Lucius 12-22-2003, 06:26 PM Can they make it so you can map the windows key while still being able to alt-tab?
Can you even map the windows key at all ever?
Sir Lucius 12-22-2003, 06:28 PM also, this other key they added after windows 95. Like the info key or something. I think that's about as useful as scroll lock. Can you map that too, or is it some magical microsoft key that's off limits?

Can you even map the windows key at all ever?I'm not sure. I can say that Alt+Tab works just fine at the moment. In fact, Alt+Enter works just fine as well.
-Striker- 12-22-2003, 06:32 PM Yeah, It would be wonderful if you could somehow disable the windows key while in game.

This is the first time I've ever heard a developer plan keybinds for a single side of wing keyboards.
As an ergonomic user, I'm impressed. Is this an innovation, or does Irrational have a history of optimizing key controls to work with wave boards?
Does Sierra?
Do you know of any developer that has made this a priority when developing the default controls?
