I used to use WASD... Now I play with a Thrustmaster Tacticalboard, so I don't even use the keyboard at all

Mouse right = forward is the ONLY way to do it
A friend who introduced Tribes to me had the right mouse button as forward on his machine and that's what I've used ever since. I use ASD for movement in the other directions, W for jump.

if you want the game to be friendly to newbies who never played tribes before, my advice is to start with WASD as 999/1000 games use WASD.
if folks want to change the binds, they can do so.
alienating and confusing new players is stupid.
