with my hands in the correct positions.

don't you press q a z and your pinky finger when you are typing a document? i have done it so many times that it is comfortable

well, for me I still have to move my hand slightly out of position when hitting the q or z keys when typing normally. I move my keyboard to a different position when playing games so my left hand doesn't move virtually at all. It helps me go faster because I don't need to worry about adjusting my hand to use my pinky.

ESDF is better since it allows for more adjacent keys to be binded to whatever else.

thus providing more keys to be available without having to reposition your hand, which is critical in the neverending struggle with team combat on an epic scale.

Why is this even an issue, aren't all games by the year 2004 going to be voice activated?

I use ESDF.

In regards to the default T:V keyboard config, which I believe this thread/poll is about, I say include both, and a couple of others as well. Most PS2 games come with several different selectable controller configs, would it really be that hard to add it to T:V?

Also, one of my suggestions that never made it into T2 was online player profiles / config storage. Imagine if your key config was able to be stored on a central T:V server. It wouldn't take up but a few KB of space (if that), and you'd be able to access from any computer you would want to play on.

For example, I go over to my friends house, he has T:V, but I can't play because I'd have to remap all his keys. Instead, if my config was available online, I'd be able to just log in, select an option to download my config, and wammo, I'm online with my custom config, and I didn't even have to carry around a CD/USB Key with me to do so.

Not only that, but when I'm done, my friend can use his config as he normally would.....

But maybe that's too complex for some people...hehe j/k :)

It's probably more effort than the dev's are willing to exert, and the space/bandwidth of hosting such data could be a lot. It's just something to consider.

I think he binds those keys to his mouse.

I think he binds those keys to his mouse.

but he's showing 8 keys bound on a 5 button mouse.

wrong. 5 buttons on the mouse are fire, reload, changeweapon, alt attack, plus two other commands depending on the game. i use uytr for my movement because i think having only 3 fingers on movement is fucking dumb and because they are centered more on the keyboard more keys are quickly available. sorry is my wording confused you.

when my friend started playing games on the cmp for the first time I told him to make a custom key config that fits him best. He made it so he moved with the keyboard and mouse but the fire button was some weird button like end so he would have to stop moving and aiming to fire, worst player I have ever seen.

now that is a waste of valuable buttons on the entire left side of your keyboard.

Ok, you had a typo in the previous post and said you used the e and r keys instead of the r and t keys. It doesn't sound quite so bad, but why don't you use the middle row of keys instead of the top ones?

Like what? I use numpad for any favs, weapon changing is done via the MMB. Can't think of anything else I need on a regular basis that I don't have room to remap.

I like to spread my hand out more, the middle row seems to close to the spacebar for me. Also i like to switch weapons or items with the number keys so i like to have those closer.

good point, i guess i just had a lot of scripts and other things i needed quick access to. also looks odd being my keyboard is centered on my desk and my mouse is close on my right, seemed like an odd hand postition.

Even though I use "wasd", you have a good idea, and I dont think configs will be too hard to store on-server.

80 or so areas to be filled in including the (x,y) location of each HUD(s) and if they are on/off, and each key binded.

thats like .4 KB per person.

I agree, T:V should ship with 5 or so of the most common configs. And you should be able to store as many pre-saved configs as you want. And there would be an option to upload your config to the server, and it overwrites the old one you had uploaded. kinda like your AIM buddyicon.

It would also be cool if there is clan-support within the online area like T2 (with tags) and maybe player-profiles that will include if you beat singleplayer, and what was your best time/difficulty...and will autoupdate your profile when you do better. And the config can be saved into that area of your profile.. and when you are logged in to your account, you can download the config, and it will update your config listings with the one you downloaded from your profile.
