Why I think lights with 2 weapon slots are more interesting than lights with 3!

I'm a huge fan of it because two of the yet to be announced weapons will make the decision of what equipment a light should take wicked hard.

I think more than ever before in Tribes we'll see people who specialize in particular weapons and become known as a good "X"er, much like Charlotte, NC was known as a good chain gunner before anybody else used the CG. Two weapon slots for a light forces you to suit up for a specific purpose, and pushes generalists into Medium. I see no drawback other than it may force some people to think.

In T1/2 you just picked Disk/Chain/GL/EPack and you were good for anything. You could cap, defend, trash, chase, etc... The only real decisions you needed to make were sniper/no sniper, shield/no shield. The rest of your equipment fell out from there.
Wow, it's like I'm seeing the thoughts I put at the start of the thread echoed in a much more concise manner.

Which makes me think I'm doing all the thinking. Your job is forfiet. Give it to me.

i think this means there is a good chance of 2 weapon limit in lights :o

i really hope that lights are blazingly fast to make up for being so "light." btw, will heavy caps still be possible? SB heavy cap for life :D

No, as I said in the other thread, this is not my decision. KP and Ed will make this decision and I'll support whatever they decide. I have my own opinion, but they are the designers and I try to stay out of their hair so to speak.

:lies: we see how KP is held captive in hobbit costumes and ed is no doubt oppressed under your reign of terror as well.

2 new weapons? hm let the speculation begin.. we already heard something about a shot-gun style weapon replacing the plasma, i think? or was it the blaster..

..and don't forget the targeting laser.

1) Blaster/Energy shotgun
2) Burner (instead of plasma)
3) CG (most probably)
4) Disc (if they don't put this in...)
5) Nade (we have pics)
6) Sniper (officially announced)
7) Rocket Pod (officially announced)
8) Mortar (high chance)
9) ??
10) ??

So there will be 9 or 10 weapons. w00t

i'm pretty sure the burner is one of the yet to be announced weapons, even though we've heard about it.

In T2:
Mediums are rapers and repairers and indoor defense. They are basically mortarless heavy roles.

A good post, but maybe you haven't played any classic lately? Mediums are one of the most versatile classes. I find myself capping more in a Medium than a light. They're always used for shriking in any form. Medium rapers are sometimes more common than Heavy's due to their mobility. They're like a light but with the ability to carry a rocket launcher.

My point: Mediums have become extremely badass since the introduction of Classic. I wouldn't write them off as just a subpar Heavy at all. Heck the only reason I use a light to cap anymore is if I can't suit up in a Medium, or if the defense is using a lot of LD to BB (mediums have a greater body mass and are easier to BB as well as being less mobile in the air).

I don't mean to stray from your post, just wanted to point out the diversity is there as it should have been way back when. I wouldn't necessarily say the combo's need to be increased, because of the usefulness of the Medium now, there are MANY new combinations that players are finding.

Sometimes I regret not getting into T2 more so that I can add to conversations including both T1 and T2. But then I remember how crappy T2 is, and am content in remaining blissfully ignorant.

The idea of limiting the lights to carrying 2 weapons is very interesting and could be a great idea. Everything I think of the matter has been previously expressed by other posters, so I will not rephrase nor paraphrase.

I wasn't implying subpar heavy. I just implied a heavy role without a mortar. They are better rapers, better indoor fighters, and mediocre outdoor fighters. Very similar to a heavy. I said nothing about the quality or quantity of their use, and I'm quite aware of their applications in capping, rapping, offense and defense. I was merely being brief. I could make a long post describing all the permutations, but they are just that: permutations. For example, I don't see the majority of players using mediums to cap on all maps, and until I do, I don't think they deserve to be considered a capping role, even though exceptions always exist.

On the other hand, mediums are used in base offense almost constantly.

Not a problem Zooloo. I figured you were being vague, but curiousity got the better of me. Just wanted to make sure the T1 players who didn't stick out T2 (like special ;) ) would have a little window into what has progressed and take those ideas into consideration when making a post about T:V and the eventual progression of Tribes.

I really do like the 2 weapon idea. I don't really like being limited, but I think the idea would definitely push the T:V theme of "simple yet complicated". The simplicity of only two available weapons for new users compliments the eventual complexity of many different loadouts/positions for a team.
