There's a pic somewhere of one of the breakout sessions and the paper easel had GAMERS R DUMB written on it.

the reason I ask though is because I was at the gameplay session. I've gotta say that it seemed more like you were holding our ideas up against what was already being done rather than trying to glean new ideas from us.

I'm sure alot of what the Dev's have put into this game (feature list) is pretty much in place quite a bit before this years Tribal Council. Most of which was taken from LAST years Tribal Council(guessing/hoping). What was taken at this year's Tribal Council, is probably more for information purposes, possible mod/mutator additions, expansion packs perhaps.

The game itself is pretty far along in development, and quite typcially once development starts (guessing it started last year sometime, not including prototype) most of the "ideas" are in place and the game takes structure around those. In order to complete the project, you can't accept and code in every new idea or even GREAT idea, when you have a list of features that have been scheduled out and are expected to be completed during a certain time frame. Otherwise, the game never gets finished. :) You also have situations where the game features are tied together in harmony and some features just won't fit in to the original scope of work/ideas. I'm sure none of them want to start rewriting to add features in.

Of course there are things we can and have been suggesting here that may help shape portions of the game that are not fixed in or require rewriting or redoing large sections of the game. (like carrying 5 grenades for lights instead of 4.) :p

As Thrax eluded to, Grappling Hook, can't simply be added in, as it would take lots of planning, testing, rewriting and making sure it fits in properly with all the other features and elements of the game.

Cliff Notes
Game is/has been in development for quite a while, unlikely that any major feature changes/additions will be added to T:V. (ie, great ideas at last Tribal Council).

:)

the reason I ask though is because I was at the gameplay session. I've gotta say that it seemed more like you were holding our ideas up against what was already being done rather than trying to glean new ideas from us.In a situation like that my response certainly depends on the idea put forth. I guarantee that some of the ideas I picked up there will make it into the game (more from some sessions than others), and some that don't make it into Tribes have already been incorporated into other games currently in development.

Many of the ideas were at direct odds with each other (More/Less of the same thing, faster/slower play, etc...), and some of the ideas were not worth a second thought. But some are in a game now, or will be in a future game.

The other thing to understand is that by the time we were at UVA we had a very solid schedule and a very complete game design. When 90% of the design is already dry ink, you need to make certain that new ideas fit within that existing framework, so yes I was holding ideas up against what was already done. To not do so would have been foolish.

That answers my question perfectly :) Thanks!
