Tribes 2 tag hijacking?

I havent played tribes 2 in years, i went to play today, and i've discovered my clan tag has been changed and i cant change it back because its 'in use' ( the { has been changed to a | ). A bug with t2? or did someone hijack our tag? That would indicate someone exploited something, not sure what, because the only other clan admin didnt change it.

Any comments?

There were (at least) two bugs in the serverside portion of the database code that allowed the creation of duplicate tribes. The duplicates always had the same name and could be created with the same tag. It would not have changed your tag at all. Had your tribe been duplicated in such a manner, the browser page would be inaccessible. When Sierra fixed the problem all the tribes that were involved (original and dupe) were deleted. If your tribe is still there it wasn't hacked.

That leaves the possibility that someone one your team did in fact change it (by accident?) or Sierra is possibly replacing certain characters, and {} just happen to be two of them. They have done it in the past for characters in names, and are now blocking most stuff before it updates the database (as it should have been all along).

all my clan info was intact, but im am certain no-body in my clan has changed it.

My other alias "{-o-} Lucid" works, where as my original account name "Lucid" with our tag attached shows up as "|-o-| Lucid", only one other person had 'admin' permissions for the clan.

Interesting though. However i doubt they would replace the brackets since they are an integral part of the clan tags.

Did anyone mess with the profile in ANY way? I think others have mentioned before that changing the browser description messed up special characters in their tribes tag. Not that the other guy would have even had to edit the tag or touch it at all, it just happened as a result of other browser changes.

I did do alot of browser profile changes. However in an interesting development, it seems there is indeed a "Clan Orb" clan... as opposed to the one i created "Orb". And it belongs to a clan member of mine?

but heres whats weird, my buddy, Treshnell went ahead and loaded tribes today, he found out he had it as part of a prepack on some vid card or something like that. He did it for the first time today. He said he wasnt sure how it works, the whole clan system, but he said he managed to get into the game.

I did some searching and it appears as though either he accidentally created a new clan AND t2 borked and changed our tag, or a bug had changed my tag long ago which made him accidentally create a new clanname easy without realizing it.

Im not too sure about what caused what, but it looks like once i get in contact with him i can fix it. Which is good news, which brings closure to problem, but leaves the question.. how?

Level 3's have the ability to change the tag as well.
