The boys over at Gamer's Pulse were able to rope in a short interview with Tony Oakden and Ed Orman. Here's a small taste:

GP: How far along into the development cycle is the title currently?

TO: We are about two thirds of the way through development. We are almost at the stage where we have all the missions for the single player campaign in first pass form and all the core gameplay systems are in place. All that remains is to mix all the ingredients up to make a fun game! That’s easier said than done but we’ve left a lot of time at the end of the schedule for balancing and play testing so we expect the game to kick ass by the time it ships. Multiplayer is actually further on than single player as we do not have to wait for the AI to be complete before testing can begin.

Things sure are moving along.

Visually, the outdoor areas are spectacular and distinctive. We’ve tried to put a new spin on the traditional outdoor spaces, so you won’t be seeing a traditional desert setting, and there’ll be no magma!

TO: We have opted to tell a sophisticated story that features characters with depth of personality and a complex interwoven plot. Doing this makes it difficult to incorporate multiple endings so we decided to place our emphasis on telling one story as well as possible and put all our effort into that. I think that was a good call as the story we are telling is, I think, significantly better than anything I’ve experienced in a computer game before.

Ok, maybe for a first person shooter, but have any of these guys ever played a good RPG? Xenogears, Final Fantasy Tactics? There are tons of console RPGs (pc rpgs usually suck) with deep engaging stories. I wonder if they just forgot about that or they've never played anything outside of a first person shooter.

But they're dead on if they're implying first person shooter stories suck.

Sierra doesn't make the game, they just pay for it. Who fucking knows how much money they wasted on tf2 tho.

here comes the nerd talk :(

"The two Tribes (Blood Eagle and Phoenix) and the Empire are all much more clearly defined in terms of personality, values and even look"

the blood eagle ARE the empire, or at least, whats left of the forces the Empire sent out the destroy all the rebel tribes (or something like that)

its all in that book that came w/ my tribes action pack...that I read...

hey it's called marketing lucius.

"the story is great... well for a first person shooter. Overall our story kind of sucks but it's better than usual. go buy it!"
