That's right folks, we need ambidexterity!
It will make the southpaws feel at home, AND you can finally snipe around corners on your left! ;) And potentially get a few extra chaingun bullets off right as the capper is going over that hill.
It's innovation at its best.
Jelly 11-03-2003, 04:43 PM I kinda like that idea. Even though im not left handed :p
FalseMyrmidon 11-03-2003, 04:43 PM k
Darkfire 11-03-2003, 05:08 PM Eww!..no i tried playing cs with the weapons on left before and it just seemed wrong for some reason i couldnt play at all..seemed weird maybe because every fps i have ever played the weapons are on the right :p..some ppl may prefer it on left so i think it should be made optional.
Sir Lucius 11-03-2003, 05:09 PM remeber in doom when the gun was in the middle?

Oh, didn't know CS let you do that (never played it). But yeah, totally optional, make it a keybind to switch, something near the weapons keys like tab, and make caps the tab menu or something. ;) There are shots you can't make though because it's always on the right hand. It's rare, but it does happen.
Beren 11-03-2003, 07:07 PM I can understand the idea of having it on the other side.. however it just looks so wrong.
how about if you could move where it is, like left-center-right ?
Sir Lucius 11-03-2003, 07:24 PM I always thought it pretty much didn't matter what side the gun shot from. And any variance it presents seems so minimal I'd see no reason you'd want to change it during battle. However, I wouldn't really mind it as an visual option.
Defaced 11-03-2003, 07:35 PM I would personally want it above whatever hand was using the mouse. But I am right handed. If the lefties want it, let them have it.

|MrSniper|Nyx 11-03-2003, 10:25 PM It was optional in UT2K3, so its already in the engine. I would love to have that option since I am left handed.
Thrax Panda 11-03-2003, 11:39 PM You're suggesting that we include a feature for 11% of the population who are going to die early anyway?
Actually, there are just other things I'd like to spend the resources on.

VaporTrail 11-04-2003, 12:07 AM Depends, if you make that 11% happy enough, the sales increase might just cover the resource outlay...
Too bad you can't just mirror image the model, that might make it easy enough to be doable.
At0m|c 11-04-2003, 12:12 AM Too bad you can't just mirror image the model, that might make it easy enough to be doable.
It's not even that hard... The model is 3d and can be rendered from any angle. There just isn't much of a demand for this. :) I don't think most people really care if it is in or not.
VaporTrail 11-04-2003, 12:23 AM Hmm... Changing the model from left handed to right handed (and vice versa) isn't exactly a rendering change. When I say mirror image, is have a model with the exact same properties, except mirrored so that the left hand is the right.
Being able to use the disclauncher, Laser rifle, chaingun, etc. in either hand is quite a situational thing, (sniping around corners, etc)... but the comfort factor for the lefties is just a bonus.
It would be good if it were made to work, "on the cheap" so to speak. It's not anything pressing, but would be another small detail that makes the game better.
Sir Lucius 11-04-2003, 01:09 AM How do you shoot around a corner? Once again, I'm pretty sure the gameplay change from left to right is too minimal to even notice if at all.
VaporTrail 11-04-2003, 01:14 AM Sidling up to a corner so that you can see past it with the ret, with the weapon on the outside. The path of the disc would take it through the wall if it were on the inside.
Currently you can only do this with the wall on the left.
True it's minor, but it depends on your playstyle if it would impact you at all. With Tribes playstyle (most of them) you're moving too fast to take advantage most of the time. HO/HD and Snipers would be the only ones to really take advantage of this IMO.
Sir Lucius 11-04-2003, 01:47 AM The only people who shouldn't be moving are defenders, and by golly they'd better not be hiding behind walls like cowards :soapbox:
