Data 10-26-2003, 12:38 AM http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;294418&Product=winxp According to Microsoft, 32-bit Windows is limited to 4GB Virtual Memory. What that translates into for physical memory, I'm not sure. You could have found the same information through a 30-second search in Microsoft's KB. Edit: Since virtual memory includes both physical RAM and page file space on the hard disk, I guess it all depends on how your system is setup. If you have 3GB RAM and 1GB Page File, then you've reached the limit for 32-bit XP. You have 512mb of ram, you have a 768mb page file. So, you have about 1.6 gigs of ram, and a 2.4 gig page file = 4 gigs. Although, with that much ram, you might as well just get rid of your page file, and just go with 4 gigs of physical. Getting rid of your page file is never a good idea, no matter how much RAM you have. CandyMan 10-28-2003, 07:42 PM The 1.5 x rule was for NT and 2000 as well as servers, not XP Pro/home. Typically you use 1.5x ram up to 1gb, then .5x up to 2x and max of 512mb up to 4gb ram. To note, i have a system with 4gb ram and a 512mb page file and it works just fine as it is.
