Is it possible to do packet sniffing with the intent of blocking virus'? I would like to set up a gateway and install packet sniffer which could indicate if any machines are spamming due to bandwidth.
As well it would be nice to be able to block known viruses before they hit my network.
I know of a few sniffers like ethereal & tcpdump but I'm not very knowledgablee about how I wouls set something like this up.
I would also not be adverse to spending some cash on a commercial package.
