Driverheaven.net (http://www.driverheaven.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28844) compared recent drivers and checked the temps they produce, here are the results. As you can see, the Omega 3.8 drivers are what runs hot, not the plain 3.8's.

Speculation is that the drivers the omega 3.8's were based on were leaked from Dell and were beta drivers intended for the XT cards only, so they were overclocking regular cards too, but without proper control.

i modified the subject of your thread to be accurate. your original said cat 3.8s, but it's actually omega 3.8.5 betas
