Changing Program Icons?

I've been finding icons on websites like Deviantart, wincustomize etc etc and I am wondering how to implement them without having to acquire one of those stupid icon programs that are advertised on those websites.

For example, I found a neat set of MSOffice icons that I would like to substitute for the default ones, how do I do this?

For shortcuts, or the programs themselves?

Shortcuts are stupid easy...

In the Star Menu, right click, Properties. [Change Icon] at the bottom of the window. Navigate to new icon and apply changes. :p

The shortcuts I have in the start menu for the applications I want to make these changes do not allow the option to change the icon from the properties menu. :\

Then you're not logged into an account with Administrator rights.

Take a screenshot of the Shortcut tab from the Properties window of any icon under Start Menu > Programs.

The self generated shortcuts for Office etc use registry information to launch, and as such they have no path information and certain features on the properties tabs like 'find target' and 'change icon' are disabled.

To change the icons for these applications, you need to manually create your own shortcut first, then change the properties.
