New bloody spontaineous reboot problem.

I dont get it! WHY does this always happen on my 'puters sooner or later? :P Well, not every single one, but I must suck or something.

Anyway, my computer has decided to start to reboot, just goes *ploink* and reboots. Not doing anything special, it doesn't happen that often.

The WINXP reporting tool says something that SmartVision from NEC is most likely the problem, I dont have smartvision or anything similar installed, but I guess it could be bundled with the tv-tuner/tv-out card? The microsoft page refers to a NEC page that supposedly has a update that fixes it, but the page is all in japaneese and none of the most common translators seem to work on it.

I have tried the most common things, restored XP, restored drivers, no go. Its just in the last week or so its started to happen. I tried new drivers for everything too, nothing seems to change the odd reboot.

Its a built to spec computer, Asus A7N8X Deluxe MB, Athlon 2800+, 1 GB ram, Nvidia GF4 TI, ASUS 7134 Tv-tuner, Dvd, CD, HD, Floppy drive.

Running XP with SP1 installed, and always grab the latest updates/hotfixes etc.

The heat seems fine, it runs at 42 C, the voltage seems fine too.

Sooo, anyone have any good suggestions on what to do in order to try and find the problem? Start pulling out cards?

I do suspect it DOES have something to do with this "smartvision" like ms says actually, because, it does seem to happen most when I am watching movies on the computer, or have several movie files open. But, then again, it happens sometimes when I'm away from the computer and not doing anything.. I'll come back to a rebooted comp.. :(

The other thing that is new with the computer is Dx9.0B... if that can be the cause.

HEEEELP!

control panel->system->advanced->startup and recovery->settings->uncheck automatically restart.

now you'll at least see the error or something.

Exactly how often is "not that often"?

Its from once to three times a day.. :)

Unchecked the automatic reboot, so now I should atleast see the blue screen.. ugh.

It just happened again, second time today, no blue screen either, it just rebooted!

Here is the error from the error log though:

System error:
Error code 1000007f, parameter1 00000008, parameter2 80042000, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 00000000.

Earlier today:

System Error:
Error code 10000050, parameter1 c1b037b0, parameter2 00000001, parameter3 805080e4, parameter4 00000000.

It doesn't tell anybody much, save for some Microsoft engineers. :hrm:

Your temps are fine, and your OS is up-to-date...

As seemingly random as your problem is, I want to say it's hardware. Possibly RAM, possibly that TV Tuner you mentioned. The best I can do is tell you to start yanking hardware. Bring it down to barebones and test stability.

Hmm, happened again overnight.. I read something about 9.0b fubaring some ethernet cards, and this time, I have a error from TrueVector engine at 4 AM.. :P

Anyway, I think I will just try a reinstall of winxp, as the damn thing wont LET me restore to a earlier date for some reason..

Then, I'll do the yanketiyank dance.. usch..
