It’s in a Via Kt400 / Athlon XP system, onboard sound, Ti4200 running WinXP Pro SP1.
They are using AOL dialup.
The modem worked fine up to this point but now windows is not detecting a dial tone – there is no audible dial tone as there was in the past.
I provided some phone support on the unit yesterday, here is a list of what we tried:
-Check that the phone cord is connected and is in the correct jack
-There is a dial tone if a phone is connected to the same cord & wall outlet
-Swapping several different cables did not remedy
-Checked device manager, no reported conflicts, device is shown to be working properly
-Uninstalled drivers & hardware, rebooted unit, windows recognized modem and drivers reinstalled fine
-Ran msconfig and chose standard startup (I have previously seen certain softmodem chipsets cause this error under XP if certain services are disabled)
None of the above actions remedied the problem. Is there anything else I should have them try before I RMA the modem?
