So I'm going to take a chance here and give you guys a backstage pass to the inner workings of PR and sales at a big game company because I think you deserve nothing less. Keep in mind that the stuff you're reading literally just happened and the results of it could take some time to be felt or not be felt at all, but I do think some recent events in the Tribes world are worthy of note and hope y'all can be cool enough to enjoy the sneak peek while understanding some details have to be left out.
Anywho, I'm sitting in a hotel room in Singapore after having attended a press/retail event for a bunch of VU Games' 2003 and 2004 games. Of course Tribes: Vengeance was one of the games that we talked about, and we were lucky enough to have none other than Michael "Kinetic Poet" Johnston on hand to help demonstrate the latest build of the game.
On Tuesday we hosted approximately 70 press from nearly every region in Asia - South Korean, Australia, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, and even some folks from South Africa and the Middle-East.
The reason why I'm writing this is because I've seen some comments/questions about our PR efforts outside of the US and I wanted to assure you folks in the Rest of the World (basically everywhere but the US) that "things are happening."
While I don't want to be accused of overhyping at this stage, I think it can be safely said that Tribes was a tremendous success and that you folks who feel underserved by our efforts will be seeing some love in your favorite magazines very soon.
On Wednesday we hosted a bunch of retail people from those same countries and again KP did a bang-up job convincing folks that Tribes is a game to watch. I think we're going to have some very exciting stuff to talk about soon - a lot of the stuff we're doing won't affect most of you guys/gals because it'll be happening outside the US, but it all adds up to more support for Tribes. And as you all know, more support = more Tribes and that's good for everyone.
So keep your eyes open for some updates soon. In fact, one of the nice side effects is that KP created a pretty nifty video highlighting some deathmatch action for the event and it's likely we'll release it some time soon.
Until then, it never hurts to keep pestering your favorite websites and magazines to get more Tribes coverage. :)
Things are just beginning here - with over a year until ship we're feeling good and I just wanted to share with TribalWar because you are part of the "rolling thunder" that is building for this game.
PS - If KP is kind enough to approve, I'll see what I can do about posting some candid pics of us all at the event. Let me promise you that you haven't seen anything until you've seen KP dressed as a Hobbit!
