I personally think that we need In game communication but utelized way better then T2 was done. I mean god forbid I compare this to CS wich I dont want to do, but done someonewhat like that I think would add alot to the game, ESPECIALLY clan matches, Yes I know about Teamspeak and everything , but honestly there is no reason why it shouldnt be built in, for lazy people like me.

Wasted effort.

It shipped with T2 and wasn't used.

Shipped with Planetside and was hardly used (although TRD made $$$ :o )

Wrong wrong wrong, I played Planetside alot, and I still do and I use it all the time, and so does my squad it just takes the initiative of one person. T2 it was a wasted effort cuz it sucked. If they do it right it could help tremendously.

I've played Planetside since exclusive beta. Don't tell what I know and don't know about the game.

All integrated voice coms I've seen to date have failed. TS and TS are so much better. Unless Irrational can work miracles in this area, just let us use our own 3rd party progs.

What would be cool would be a voice comm like the one they promised for TF2 back in 98 :o
(remember those videos of the guy talking in the mike and the soldier talking on-screen, with echo in big rooms and none outside? :p)

This is a repeat thread. Voicecomms are a waste of effort for the DEV guys. Spend the money on gameplay and graphics not features that the competitive community can get for free anyway.

UT2K4 will have built in Voice Comm's. So I'm thinkin it will already be a part of the UT Engine. So it's just a matter of turning it on.

Teamspeak and Ventrilo require the use of servers, passwords, connections, rooms, binds, etc.

If it was integrated and the quality/performance was good, it would be used. I think a game like Tribes needs it.

You can always disable for matches and use Teamspeak/Ventrilo, but for the Tribes public, being able to organize and communicate through built in methods that everyone immediately has access and can benefit through is a big PLUS.

I also think the CANNED Voice chat is the BEST of any game, in T1/T2, I'm surprised noone has followed suit. That should be in there too. Between canned chat and real time voice chat.. awesome! :)

Do you really want to have to listen to those annoying fuck's voices? Having to see what they type is annoying enough that I don't want to have to hear it too. And don't say "That's why there's a mute button". Maybe I don't want to go through and spend time that I should be using to play the game muting every single shithead I find annoying.

I agree it can get annoying sometimes.. but I think the benefit of having it in-game and ready to outweighs the negatives. In most cases people want to be able to coordinate and attack use real time chat.

It could be enhanced enough to maybe allow creation of channels that you could easily "tune" into. Maybe the offense squad is on channel F4, so you press F4 to join that channel. Nothing complicated or set in stone.. just if you join a pub and say, hey, I'm going offense as Capper.. any HO or LO wanna join me I'm in F5, or whatever..

In addition, having a key that simply MUTES all voice traffic without having to uniquely select a certain individual can work. Also, in most cases you'll only be listening to the guys are your team, although with a toggle you could change to listen/chat to ALL.

I think there's some small things that can be done in the voice chat arena that can make it VERY worthwhile.. Yes in the past, Voice chat has been a pain.. but a few of the ideas I suggested above and suddenly it's a GREAT tool without being an large annoyance. :)

Dammit people not this again...

The ingame voice in Natural Selection is a huge help...it facilitates teamplay in pubs. If they don't put it in T:V I will personally burn down the Sierra offices.

yeah, I thought we'd settled this in the other thread

maybe ship with one of the many programs, not build it into the game

The best way to go, as I think was also in the other thread, would be to use a 3rd party app & integrate it's functions & settings into the T:V interface to make it more user-friendly.

Also, it would be nice if you could bind a single key to mute the player currently on the mic.

VSAF, VAW, VAA, VFF, *grab*, VNC, VDF, *cap*.
Voice binds allow for amazing coordination without having to talk.

If they have voice comm integrated in, it need to have a global mute bindable, and like you said multiple channels to join for different info.

There is a divide between new players and vets.
New players, by and large wanted the integrated "stuff."
The browser is the single most asked about item in irc.
Tmail would be the next item of interest.
After that comes ingame communication.
How to accomodate both camps is a good question.

i actually don't think it's a waste of time......yes, right now i perfer to use ventrillo or ts2...but face it, it sucks for pubs....take the xbox live for example.......it's great to talk shit over it....or just shoot the shit with people you don't know. Using external programs makes it near impossible to do this with people you don't know.

If there was someway to integrate ts2/ventrillo/teamsound INTO the product itself, it would be great.

(and i'm not a new player)
