aries278 09-07-2003, 12:42 PM for weapons? ok just a little something that might make the game look a little more believable. In T1 you kill someone and the weapon just falls down and lands on the ground like a sticky piece of bubblegum what if the weapon hit and the rolled on the terrain tumbling so as to give it more realism. Also why whould a backpack fall off the body when you die I mean isn't it strapped to you when you select your loadout? I would understand if when you get blown apart it would have nothing to be strapped to but these are just thoughts. What do yall think?
|MrSniper|Nyx 09-07-2003, 12:53 PM This would add an interesting dynamic because objects wouldn't end up where trhe bodies fall, making loot corpses (a big part of play sometimes) harder or different. I know in T2 weapons and packs slide down hills if they are steep enough, tumbling is just an asthetic effect.
It would make sense and be realistic, but we know realism doesn't always enhance gameplay. I wouldn't mind seeing how it works, but I can't say if it would be good or bad without playing the game with it in and out.
Amadeus 09-07-2003, 01:06 PM I think it's such a small change that it wouldn't be worth all the modifying, but who knows how much free times people have... ;)
*SPAWN* Devil 09-07-2003, 07:23 PM uhm, i think you would have to modify the game engine for that. sorry dude i just can see a way to do that in the game maybe i'm outa my leage on this one...

Not at all. Ragdoll is accomplished through the use of the Karma engine which is a mathematics/physics engine. You can apply it to whatever you want. For instance Planetside uses Karma for it's vehicle physics, but you don't see any player model ragdoll.

Midnight.

dear lord, I will make you a sig if only to get rid of that one you have! ouch my eyes hurt.
bigbigger9 09-07-2003, 11:02 PM heh...
Too much rag doll effects though may slow down frame rate?
I think the reason packs fall off dead bodies in T1 is smart. Bodies sometimes land on their back, if their packs didn't fall off, how would you know you wanted what's on 'em? It just makes things quicker.

Yep. It chews up CPU cycles.
Amadeus 09-08-2003, 10:23 AM Yep. It chews up CPU cycles.
...and just imagine what scale of lag would this lead to in a 16-16 game. The whole match would be a gigantic ragdoll calculation.
Skeletor666 09-08-2003, 08:17 PM dude this is the least of my worries and something that wouldn't really add enough to the game to warrent addition or the resources to pull it off IMHO.
Clamsoda 09-08-2003, 08:48 PM man CPUS are getting so powerful though, nothing can lag them anymore really
Shinigami 09-08-2003, 09:29 PM Midnight.
I have been lied to. :[

Um... ok... my graphics card has trouble with T2.
Crappy TNT2 64 Model (32 MB). (I got T2 for my brithday from my brother)

Unreal 2k3 runs better than T2 ever has/did/will. It's a much better engine. I have a GeForce3 Ti500.
UT2K3 runs like shit compared to T2 on my box.
I guess I'm one of the few that will actually admit that.
And what makes it a much better engine, in your opinion? There's an age difference in the technology, obviously. That should be expected, right? I mean, let's not compare dated technology.

Ack...a base player!
Just kidding....but look into classic, it'll give you a better perspective come T:V time.
Amadeus 09-09-2003, 12:49 PM Ack...a base player!
True. :D

When you take into consideration the age gap between the T2 engine and the UT2K3 engine, the fact that the UT2K3 runs the same if not better than the T2 engine on my comp, and looks 1000x nicer, makes me believe its a better engine.
I mean I still struggle to keep 60 fps constant in T2, while in legends I pull 80 w/o a problem, and in UT2K3 with details maxed I still get 25-30, and much more if I take off some of the most intense details.
Obviously with your video card UT2K3 won't run superbly and T2 would probably run better, but thats also because your card is a year older than T2, if not more.
