I'm building a PC for a friend. I put it all together, and powered it up and was suprised that it didn't boot right up. The green diagnostic LED lights up on the board when theres a good power source connected, and the RED led lights up on the board when you turn the actual PC back on.

Naturally, I went back through over all the bonehead things I could do. I wound up disconnecting everything from the motherboard to check and make sure I hadn't done anything boneheaded.

Currently, the only things on there are the motherboard (ABIT IS7-G), CPU (P4 3.0CGHz), RAM (one 256mb Corsair PC2700 DDRAM) and the video card (Radeon 9200)

I went through and reseated both the memory and the video card to make sure they had a good connection.

The motherboard is mounted nicely, I've built dozens of PCs in the past.

I don't have a P4 system to double check the RAM/CPU in to make sure they're working.

I did have one concern though, Newegg's website said that this motherboard supported 333MHz RAM. Thats what my friend bought. But the manual just says it supports 400MHz RAM (It doesn't say specifically that it doesn't support 333MHz ram. And it also doesn't say that it only runs 400MHz RAM)

Anyways, I was hoping you guys would have some good input, maybe a resource on the interweb you could point me at that is a little more informative than the user manual on the IS7-G

I had the same problem with a new P4 board (gigabyte 8knxp w/ intel 875P chipset) . The problem was my very expensive corsair ram ( matched PC3200 LL ram 4X512s ) Put some cheapo DDR in it and it booted fine.

I would try that first

Good luck

Edit- one other thing? Is this board dual DDR? if so you need two pieces of ram. - Just a thought

It is Dual DDR, but the manual (and all other info) leads you to believe that the motherboard should work fine if you just use one stick. I told the guy to buy two DIMMs, but he made a mistake when placing the order. I have him in a holding pattern while I make sure we don't need to get 400MHz RAM instead of the 333MHz we had him order

The 333 should run if it supports up to 400. Try just one stick if you haven't already.

did the lights turn on or didnt they? i have the same mobo. u might want to try clearing the cmos. there is a little jumper to the right of the dimms to do that. it might be the power supply too. how big is the power supply? also, make sure u have the extra P4 12V power supply cable connected.

Good point. A lot of people forget to plug in the 12v on the p4 board. As for dcddr boards, you can get by with just 1 stick. However, you won't have dc mode working until you buy another stick of ram of the same size.

I wound up fixing it. I took it all apart and put it back together. The CPU didn't look like it was seated properly. Either that or I guess the maybe the RAM.

Its up and running now. Now I'm waiting to make sure there aren't any temperature or lockup issues, then its off to my friend ;)
