i got the blast virus last week and installed the windows updates, ran norton, and manually blocked ports 135 and 139 on my linksys router. now i can't get online to play games (i've only tried tribes and ravenshield) - i didn't try to play any games online until recently but cannot connect now. i tried unblocking those ports but it didn't help. i have dsl, winxp, and a linksys befsra4 router. any ideas? btw - i'm almost completely computer illiterate so any help would be appreciated at the most basic level.
If you "didn't try to play any games online until recently", how do you know they ever worked in the first place?
sorry let me rephrase that - i made the changes to my router and installed the updates early last week - prior to that my games worked fine - i haven't tried to play them AGAIN until recently - and now they don't work.

reset your router to default, make sure your winxp firewall is not turned on, install zonealarm instead of using that firewall.
Is it the BEFSR11, or something like that?
Data, it's the BEFSR41. i'm currently looking for a way to set it to default. is it possible that because i don't have SP1 installed for xp but do have the new security udates that i can't connect?
Anything is possible, but that's unlikely. Why don't you have SP1?
ok fixed. i reset the router to default, dl'd sp1 and am using zone alarm as my firewall. thanks guys.
