Strange lag spike/lag every 2 minutes or so

I couldnt find any threads on the subject, so here goes.

i'm pretty sure it doesnt pertain to shutting down (as my computer doesnt shut down after 1 minute), but i was told my problem had something to do w/ msblast.

I have ZoneAlarm running for firewall, i've done all my "critical updates", and even ran the symantec msblast getting rid of program. Since i'm running win98, i'm pretty sure i cant get msblast, so i dunno wtf is going on.

Every two minutes or so, my game (T2) locks up for about 10 seconds. My ping hud doesnt say my ping is going up until i get out of the spike. Is this a problem other people have, and is it fixable?

EDIT:
This has never happened before.

specs i know:
Old HP Computer (building a new one within a few weeks hopefully)
Windows 98 (4.10 - 2222)
128 mb of RAM (unknown type)
AMD Athlon K7 786mhz
Riva Nvidia TNT2 Pro
Running T2 at 800x600, 16bit color, settings turned way down.
Cable modem

EDIT 2:

k, ran T2 with my side panel off and w/ a fan blowing into it to see if my vid card was getting to hot (idea given by farbehindx), and the FPS stayed stable while the ping froze, then jumped up to 270-999.
So it isnt my vid card.

EDIT 3:

Myself and Ro went through my programs list (Huge), looking for anything fishy.

Holy shit you have a lot of crap installed.

OK, first of all, 9x series operating systems don't have the Remote Procedure Call, and therefore are immune to MSBlast and variants thereof. This exploit and its roster of worms/virii/trojans are targetted at Microsoft's NT-based line; namely Windows NT 4.0, 2000, XP (all versions), and 2003 Server.

Now, let me read the rest of your post and try to make some sense of what's going on...

Dude, seriously... Clean up your hard drive.

I'd be worried about this:

Uninstall it if you can figure out how. If it was a virus or trojan it would show up on a virus scan. It's more likely a corrupt entry in whatever you used to pull up that list. That may mean that the program itself is corrupt.

Your problem with T2 is Internet/networking related. There's a sticky in this forum for optimizing a broadband connection. Read through it, do the things that pertain to you, and let me know if it changes anything in T2.

That's the best start I can give you. Who is your cable provider and when did this start happening?

my cable provider is "Speed-Way" and it started happening this morning. i'll try and take whatever i dont use anymore off that list, probably get rid of the ||X^ shit too.

That would be in your best interest.

With the RPC exploit wreaking havoc across the Internet, I wouldn't be surprised if your ISP has put some measures in place to protect its users (and to protect the Internet FROM its users) that could be the source of your problem. It would be difficult to say for sure though...

my isp snet/sbc has "wisely" decided to block selected ports without letting a soul know and thus rendered remote drive mapping eg \\insertIPhere\datayounee dtoworkathome from being possible. tards.

its like you said, ISP related. I called them, they said they changed nothing, and that all the bandwith usage from MSBlast is affecting me directly when playing games. Turns out i have to same problem in T1 aswell. Just have to wait it out i guess.
