since he's currently wrestling with fixing his RPC vuln and can't stay online, he asked me to post this for him:

Basically, he has 2 windows installs (of xp home), one of which he never uses and wants to remove. I suggested he look in his boot.ini, figure out where the unused install is located, remove it from boot.ini, and delete the install. I'm not completely confident in my directions though, and so I'm posting here ;)

backslider52: how the f do i take windows off one drive without formatting?
Nebs717: reinstall over it?
backslider52: erm.
backslider52: i have windows on two drives.
Nebs717: oh
Nebs717: two separate installs?
backslider52: it installed on my F:
backslider52: never asked me where i wanted
backslider52: just took it into it's own hands.
Nebs717: that's odd
backslider52: no shit.
Nebs717: i would think the xp home installer was the same as xp pro
Nebs717: i wouldn't go deleting anything in that case
backslider52: well
backslider52: when i boot.
backslider52: it asks me which one i want.
Nebs717: ah-ha.
Nebs717: look in your boot.ini file
Nebs717: it will contain entries for both of the installs
Nebs717: in the same order that they appear when you have to choose
Nebs717: look at them, figure out which disk the one you don't want is on
Nebs717: and delete with impunity
Nebs717: i think
Nebs717: might wanna take this ti tw tech
Nebs717: ;o
backslider52: you think?
Nebs717: yes
Nebs717: which is why
Nebs717: i suggest
Nebs717: you post on tw tech
backslider52: why don't you take it to tw tech? d:
Nebs717: ok
backslider52: i have a hard enough time staying connected

deleting it from boot.ini will only remove the boot entry, not the actual OS from the disk. if he wants to delete the operating system, he needs to do the boot.ini thing as well as kill the partition or at the very least delete the directories from the disk (windows, program files, documents and settings, etc.)
