Internet explorer not opening a new window?

Ok, the best way to explain this is to have an example

I am surfing tw, and theres a thread with a link (it doesnt matter where the link leads). Now normally when something is linked off of TW, it opens up in a new window. But today, my computer has decided to no longer be able to open a link up in a new window. Even if i right click and click Open in a new window, nothing happens. Not a blank window or anything, just simply nothing. So i rebooted, and the same thing is still happening.

So this struck me as rather odd, so i tried copying the link to the clipboard (Copy Shortcut) and pasting it in the Address Bar. No dice, Paste is greyed out and nothing is in my clipboard :mofo: (Out of curiousity, i checked to see if it would paste it in notepad, but there was nothing to paste. Decidedly odd.)

And of course, dragging the link into the Address Bar doesn't work either :mofo: :mofo:

So I'm stuck with the only way to hit a link that opens a new window, is to manually type it in

Anything advice short of tossing my computer in the street would be helpful, I'm not entirely sure how necessary my hardware specs are BUT in the intrests of being complete

Win2000
XP1900+
768mb Ram
Geforce2 MX 400
An Amazingly shitty Iomega CDRW (8x4x32) (very soon to be replaced, just need to swap it out)

No hardware changes or driver changes in a month or so
(not that i could imagine that affecting internet explorer... )

Ok well I figured out "why" this is happening, I must've not noticed this after my last reboot

It seems that svchost.exe keeps on crashing (i gotta head to work, ill post the exact error msg when i get home tonight) about 5-7 mins after a reboot, which creates this problem

so now the question is, will i need to reload windows to fix this?

Or is there some way to beat svchost into submission
