Speaker setup (Inspire 5.1 5700 -> NF7-S)

This is a copy + paste from my initial thread at nforcershq.

OK, for a couple of months i've had my new computer built with the NF7-S 2.0 motherboard with the onboard sound. I tried to make sense of everything to try to plug my Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5700 speakers into them properly to get sound in all speakers. This was when I first built the computer though, so I don't remember exactly what I tried. So right now, I have my Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer in with my speakers working in that. But, i'd like to not have to use the sound card at all and stick with the onboard audio. This is how it's currently setup:

External box>Digital Din Connector>Digital jack

Could someone (in as much dumbed-down technical talk as possible) explain how I can connect my speakers into the onboard audio properly? Is there some accessory that i'll need to buy to get full sound? I probably look like a moron asking for help on this, but unfortunatly i'm stuck :/ .

Usually I'd ask TW to be merciful, but this is TW afterall so i'm just preparing the firesuit o_0 .

So you want digital out from the motherboard to the Inspires?

According to Creative, the Inspire 5700 speakers only support 4-channel output (front & rear) through the 1/8th-inch Minijack, which is what your motherboard uses for output. 5-channel out (including center channel) only works through the DIN/Mini-DIN jack and the optical port, neither of which come standard on that board.

That's the best I can do based on preliminary research. Basically you're limited in channels with the nForce 2 onboard sound and those speakers. I'll let you know if I find more info.

Correction: The NF7-S has an SPDIF out. I'm looking into it.

Is there any particular reason you can't use the SPDIF out next to your speaker outs on the motherboard?

if thats the black one, would it require an optical cord?
