Mortar spam imo is a needed thing in tribes. While some say its cheap and unfair, its not that hard for a good D to stop a spammer. My question is, with T:V having limited scripting, will it be possible at all to make a ret with a range finder for the mortar? and while it may be controversial to some, a lot of HO rely on waypoint scripts for their spamming because its the most convenient and efficient way of getting the job done. I'm assuming that won't be scriptable either :P

So is mortar spam going to be nerfed in T:V or what?

I'm pretty sure since it's a custom ret we'll be able to modify those. As for custom waypoints, I doubt they'll be possible... spam points don't really add a lot to the game, I don't see any skill in using them...

If I think I know something about the Unreal engine, you don't think I should reply?

please don't allow anything as rediculous as airpoints or some crap like that. Make the ho get a reticle, or memorize spots please, thanks.

I Have played Heavy Offense since T1 and I agree. Make the battle be more in your face action then long range spam all over the place :)

Not knocking jsut or Qing they did a great job for T2 imo. I would just like to see the new game not have those options to have air waypoints.

So is mortar spam going to be nerfed in T:V or what?Spam-Points is cheating. Plain and simple. Allowing a cheat because you can't stop it is one thing. Designing it into the game is stupid. We will do everything we can to prevent things like spam-points from being possible.

thrax said it.

Tribes is a moving game, not sitting on your ass and aim at that little dot in the sky while holding down your fire button game. Go play worms if you like doing that.

Ahhh, that is good news to hear, Thrax. Really good news, since spam killed roles for old-fashioned artillerymen like myself. Any word on whether or not the mortar can be assisted by a target laser?

Thrax you rock.

Also, I think a targeting laser is needed. They are useful for lots of things. Pointing, signaling, targeting, blinding. They are as much tribes as 'shazbot'. Plus, I use them in matches to get Hos to kill things for me :\

It's not like Thrax didn't answer this question in the very first Q & A he ever did for T:V ;)

and it's not like spam will go away, it'll just be one of those things that only the teams with the time and dedication will be able to develop.

I just hope the base turrets in T:V aren't like the plasma turret in classic :D

I think a training system would be helpful that would include air and land waypoints.

I personally don't really care about waypoints; its just a means to an end imo. but I also don't think its as black and white as Thrax makes it out to be.

While targeting beacons and lasers do work, there should be a way for solo HO's to at least take down base turrets without firing 1 or 2 test shots

Maybe make a pack that displays a grid across the terrain or something. I dunno. I just don't want to go back to the days of wasting 3 hours making spam for a map that lasts less than 30 minutes :/
