If you had to carry your flag back to its stand to return it?
While pondering the future of the Tribes universe, it dawned on me that one aspect of CTF doesn't make a lot of sense: when you touch your team's flag in the field, it teleports back to your stand. Why don't you have to escort your flag back to the stand (or at least back to the vicinity of your base)? I can think of a few instances where having to carry it back would be a pain in the ass - like when it's dropped deep in the enemy base - and a few more where it would be fun and challenging, adding another level of complexity to the gametype. I can't really decide what kind of impact it would have without playing it.
What do you guys think? Does that create an opportunity for exploits?
Opinions welcome.

Da_Timsta 07-29-2003, 02:48 PM it would have to be tweaked some, as it would be a huge advantage to be able to carry your flag around. Basically you could turtle with your own flag.

Yeah I just saw the link in the other flag thread. :p
Does anybody play it?

maybe there would be an invisible sphere around your base and when you get inside it your flag is returned...
but then you could still be off near the boundaries behind hills etc. hiding...
Locke355 07-29-2003, 03:10 PM exploits.. naw.. i mean.. not like grab your own flag and run INTO your base to the most heavily guarded section, effectively moving the flagstand. No exploits here.
That and returning your own flag would suck from a well guarded enemy base. Spawn ratio alone would kill you unless you got a huge openfield grab going fast.
Rabid Poop 07-29-2003, 03:12 PM how about the opening to the base be small so if you try to go inside the flag hits the ceiling and it could become pretty damn annoying
Locke355 07-29-2003, 03:14 PM and then we bust out the butter and grease and try and squeeze a heavy through this same hole that the flag doesn't fit in.
That would be a sweet fucking weapon. Like a flamethrower, but instead throws butter so you can lube up your guys. SWEET!
Rabid Poop 07-29-2003, 03:16 PM yeah and their would be a lube inventory station which would sprays butter all over you so you can ski faster but with less control, resulting in extremely comical situations.

I guess this is exactly how it works in PJ's mod.
By the same token, if you're off in a corner somewhere, you're not going to be capping a flag anytime soon...

Remove one flag.

Simple solution is leave it alone.
Whatever happened to 1 flag.. or multiflag anyways. where the flags were out in the field and you had to hold them?
...and stop wackin it to strawberry and rainbow while at work.
sdest 07-29-2003, 04:11 PM yes bring back the hold the flag thing from t1 pls
SegaRob 07-29-2003, 05:08 PM those are C&H maps as opposed to CTF maps
Thrax Panda 07-29-2003, 05:12 PM No, they weren't CnH, there was the game type where you'd go fetch 5 flags and bring them to your base and put them on the 5 flag stands, and you could steal them from the enemy flag stands. I think it was called TurtleFest.

5 flags? and if youd kill someone you could pick up all their flags, and you had to return them to the nexus

F&R - find and retrieve
i'm sorry C&H was holding on to bases through an activation switch

Hunter (i think) - but that didn't include any flag stand
