Help I Still Wanna Play T2

I have been playing T2 since the day of release with minimal problems and never a ue. But now after a slight change in my hardware I crash to desktop, lock up, or ue about every 5 minutes of game time. The only change since my previous happy gaming to my current "I'm gonna throw my tower out the window" crashes is I installed a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard and a second HDD for storage.

I have tried a fresh install with no scripts of any kind, still crashes. It's not heat because other more demanding games run for hours without problems. I have tried every sound setting in T2 and on my soundcard itself. I have uninstalled all my drivers and updated them all. I will be upgrading from 98 to XP very soon and will be reformatting my my primary HDD when I do, but that is the last thing I can think to try. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

System Specs:
Athlon XP 1700
AZZA KT3-AV Mobo
768 Mb PC133 Ram
GeForce 3 64Mb
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound
Western Digital 8 gig, 5400rpm
Western Digital 80 gig, 7200rpm
DirectX 9.0a
Inland Optical Mouse
52x CD-ROM
52x24x52x CD-RW

Any ideas would be appreciated, as I said the last thing I can think of trying is the reformat that is coming anyway.

get directx 9b, update chipset drivers... does it do it even in Miles 2 positional audio? try backing up your clientprefs.cs and rebuild it from scratch....

I will try 9.0b and some older graphics card drivers... Miles was what was suggested by everyone so I use it. Chipset drivers are newest. I will try the clientprefs rebuild also, but a totally fresh install of T2 crashed the same way.

well... directx 9.0b didn't help... older series drivers didn't help (but I may try more of them). What if I went back to directx 8?

ReP, do you do a scan of spyware every once in a while?

get spybot or adaware, it doesn't matter.

spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/)

adaware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/)

One of my buddys had a problem with the same stuff yer having quite a while ago (near the beginning of T2) and removing an instance of some spyware solved his problem.

Otherwise.. *sigh* reformat :|

It's the soundcard :\

Try direct sound if you can.

take out the sound card and it will work perfectly

for a while when i got a radeon 8500, my old aureal vortex would cause lockups in ANY 3d i did. removed it, and not 1 after that.

What about running 2 soundcards on the same system? Never done it before but couldn't you just switch hardware profiles and speaker wires? If it's possible I may just play T2 with an old SB16 Value and play the games that actually work on my Santa Cruz.

You probably can. Worth a shot.

Can't get 2 cards to work on 98... maybe it will work on XP if switching to XP doesn't fix the problem first.

MILES sound code is the bug.

(as evidenced by its removal in the SUPPORTED garage games torque engine)
