Just to give you an idea of a new build cost:

I built my system for around $800 in August, brand new, warranties on everything, this is where it was w/o the many upgrades I've made in the past year:

Athlon 1800+, 256 DDR 2100, MSI KT333 mobo, Chaintech GeForce4 ti4200 128mb, network card/modem, MSI 48x16x48 burner, 16x DVD, 350W PSU, 20 GB WD 7200 RPM drive.

By now the prices of all those have gone down, so I wouldn't be surprised if you could build that for $650 or under. Newegg.com is the best.

But really if you wanna avoid the hassle of shipping and building, bad parts and whatnot, just buy Monkey's. The hard drive alone on that is worth $120, same thing I have now ;).
