restarting problems

when windows media is running. have expired my limitied knowledge of problems, plz help! also, i have 768mb of pc2700 in 3 256 strips, however sometimes it registers at 768 sometimes 256 sometimes 512.

what ive done to try and fix:
reformat winxp
update video drivers
adaware
spybot search and destroy
norton antivirus scan
western digital lifegaurd diagnostic on my hardrive

specs:
amd 2000+ 1.67ghz
gigabyte ga-7vrxp board
768 pc2700 ram
geforce4 ti4400
winxp home
cpu temp 45C
sys temp 30C

any help is appreciated :D

any help is appreciated :D bad ram? try running your system with only 256mb of ram at a time (try each stick isolated).. it probably has something to do with that.. also check to see if your CPU heatsink/fan is mounted properly and check the heatsink on your geforce4

Yeah if your memory doesn't count up properly every time that would be the first thing to test. Try each stick individually as said, find your motherboard documentation and make sure it is compatible with your memory configuration and capacity.
