Network troubles...

I just got back to school and have been pinging 20 to all major east servers until the rest of campus came back last Monday. It was jumpy the first night about 150ish. It has been predominantly good, but unfortunately it became really jumpy of late and pings were up in the 500-600 range, 5 minutes later reverting to 20-100 pings.

The thing that baffles me is that this problem ONLY occurs in Tribes. My downloads and uploads are consistant, and other games such as Warcraft 3, counterstrike, and Quake III, all yield steady, good pings.

Other systems have this problem as well, so it is not any system settings of mine causing the inconsistent connections.

Why would a college network ping poorly to Tribes and Tribes 2, while pinging fine to other games?

Something to do with the ports in the 28000 range?

if it is, is that something that the school can remedy (say if they were blocking a share proggy around that port)

they wouldnt stop blocking it cuz i wanted to play tribes :\

Well its not blocked or you wouldn't get through at all.

No idea what it could be, but it seems like something in that port range is tying up a lot of your bandwidth.

Then again, I don't know what ports other games use.
