Outlook 2000 hangs

Ms Outlook 2000, using C/W install with an exchange server and internet email

multiple users are set to open the same mailbox (lawyer and 2 secretaries), 2/3 of them can open it fine, but on one of the secretaries laptops, when i fire up outlook it hangs.

After about a minute or two, it seems to unfreeze and everything works from there, no problems

the customer is pretty annoyed that she has to wait 2 minutes just to be able to access outlook, especially when its loading in no time for everyone else.

i have a feeling it has something to do with either the TCP/IP setup, or the exchange server, but im not sure at this point

 for help

Check the hosts file in C:\WINNT\system32\drivers \etc... put the exchange server in there if it isn't already.

Alternatively, there is also a registry setting that could help:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWA RE\Microsoft\Exchange\Exc hange Provider]
"Rpc_Binding_Order"="ncacn_ip_tcp"

Assuming all your exchange server uses is TCP/IP that is, it will WAY cut down on protocol load time ;)

thanks for the quick replies guys

Mer- already checked Hosts/LMHOSTS, they're identical to the other 2 machines and both list the exchange server

already checked that registry setting too, first entry before TCP/IP was ncalrpc, not quite sure what that is, but i tried removing it and seeing if that helped, no luck yet though.

and middy - i think she was fucking with rules or something, looks like it - and there are new rules about searching messages for 'adult content' so i think you're on the right track

how the hell do i disable it?

I dont see how having a client-side filter would increase load times by 2 minutes+, unless she is running on like a 386, lol.

ok Middy, you were right

you're the man ;)

i went in and disabled all her client-side rules and now everything runs great

seems like she had 5 or 6 rules with undefined fields, looks like she got halfway thru creating them and either cancelled out of it or crashed

thanks for your help guys, y'all are making me look real good ;)
