new vid card problem

i just got a gainward gf4 4400

Anyhow I'm trying to install drivers for XP and nothing is taking. I've tried the drivers off the CD, the latest nVidia drivers, and the latest drivers off gainward's site. nothing is working.

Did you set adapter to vga, remove the old drivers, reboot, then run installation?

We ended up reinstalling XP I think. The thing was damn stubborn.

Funny thing is, he just upgraded from a GeForce 2 MX, so whatever detonators were on the system should have instantly recognized and initialized the new card without question. Very strange stuff...

By the way, this was pre-Service Pack 1. I hope he updated that...
