T1 not shutting down properly in winxp

Didnt know where to ask, so I'll give it a shot here :f

Tribes does not go away (http://da-timsta.soo.dk/misc/fuck.gif) from my Task Manager when i exit (either using alt+f4 or the quit button). I can't start It (and most other programs for that matter) again untill I end the process :|

Anybody know what might cause this?

nope

but type services.msc in run bar and disable printer spooling
you probably dont need all those svchosts running, but make sure u read up on them before disabling each one

also you should cover up your name in the screenshot :P

i dont get why they added soo many stupid useless programs running at one time like that, with win95-ME it was Explorer and Systray, that was it(except of course the ones that prefer to hide themselves)

Winxp is essentually NT 5.0 so it's supposed to be network heavy. In that case most of those programs wouldn't be useless.

And 95 and ME were 100% shit. :]

98(SE) was good actually, i was using it for like 5 months, crashed maybe 3 times
ME is the totally shitty one, 3 crashes a day min

wewt

and NT blows, always has, probably always will

gimme a NEW os that does what XP does only without the shitty "networking" bs, gimme winipcfg and basic network support with tweaked broadband profiles and a STABLE base

is that too much to ask?

I rather liked ME for the 6 months I had it. I dual booted with Win2k.
ME kicks the crap outta 2k for gaming, the reason I was running it.
I only really had games installed on it, barely any apps, so that might be the reason it was stable :P

With the Tribes problem, as always, have you tried a reinstall of the game?

they were in win98, you just couldnt see them
if you view "Applications" then you'll see the programs running you'd normally see in win98 (as it didnt have a process viewer)

it sounds like the OS you are looking for is win2k pro
i've been using it for about a year now, it's more stable than winxp, doesn't have the "network crap" that win2k server or adv. server do, runs sweet for games, and has awesome uptimes.

jelly type services.msc in run bar, then right click on each one and go to properties
it'll give you a little description of what each one does (some of them will be the svchost), and if you still dont know just search google for more information on them (some use like svchost -k, which runs a different type of svchost)

Thanks man, Im reading these right now yet most arent running....Which are the scvhosts located though? i dont see them listed here. I see you said to stop the print spooler service in a post up the page, not to sure on if i should stop it. Let me know thanks

it should be fine as long as you dont need a network printer
make sure you set them to "manual" instead of automatic too, otherwise they'll just start up again when you reboot

edit: and change them one at a time
i changed a few too many once, and i couldnt connect to the internet or remember which ones i changed

Hrm, I was running 2k before XP and aside from XP being a little more resource heavy, I thought it was better. I know the gaming support is better and XP seemed just as stable as 2k.

I feel the same way, i was up for a week and a half playing tribes everyday pretty much (only game i play really) and i have had no issues..execpt for svchost killing my resources so i just ended it and restarted the service and it goes back to normal with out doing anything to the pc current.

win2k pro is excellent imo. I haven't had any probs with any game with Sp3... Some D3D games fucked up without Sp3 tho..
