Rambus Question

Alright I just recently built myself a p4 2.4 gig with 256 pc 800 ram. Installed XP on it, and whenever I load up UT or Tribes, my hd will grind every second or so for a lil while like its loading into virtual memory, and my game skips until its finished. I've never dealt with rambus before, but they have to work together like EDO ram did. Whenever I check my memory stats in twirc, it says im using below 128. My question is, is it possible for one of the sticks to be bad and yet my computer still turn on, seeing as they have to work together? I'm assuming once something tries to use the bad stick, it just gets transfered to virtual memory, but i'm not totally sure. Also my HD seems to work an aweful lot, like right now when im playing an mp3. Its pissing me off and I need to find the solution.

Did you set a specific min/max for your virtual memory, or are you letting Windows manage it?

no, that's not how it works. if you have a bad stick, it doesn't know during normal use, and it won't suddenly go to VM. try defragging your drive.
